We want to hear from you. As many of you know Harry Hughes Equestrian Center is looking to replace our fence before next years show season. We have 3 options that we are considering and have quotes for but before we vote and decide on something we feedback. Also, if anyone has other options you think we should consider we would love to hear those as well.
🐎6-ft Metal Panels
Pros - Very durable and long-lasting, little maintenance, Easy to replace individual panels, 6-ft height provides a substantial barrier, Resistant to rot and insects, can often be moved/reconfigured, would allow us to host a wider variety of events
Cons- Highest Cost Quote, Metal can be hard and unforgiving if a horse hits it, Potential for hoof/leg entrapment depending on panel design, can rust over time if finish is damaged, may be visually/utilitarian rather than traditional
🐏Ramm Fence
Pros- Local Company that has supported Harry Hughes in the past, specifically designed for equine fencing, Flexible/impact-absorbing compared with rigid fencing, No rot or insect damage, generally low maintenance, Clean professional appearance
Cons - Middle Cost Quote, Requires proper installation and tension
🪵Wood 2x6 Boards
Pros- Lowest Cost Quote, Traditional horse-farm appearance, Boards provide a solid visual barrier, Easy to customize/paint or stain, Individual boards can be replaced, generally easy to source materials, can provide a sturdy perimeter when properly built
Cons- Requires regular maintenance, can rot, split, warp, or become damaged, Horses may chew boards, Nails/screws and broken boards can create safety concerns, more labor-intensive to maintain, Snow, moisture, and weather can shorten lifespan
