Horse show rant…

If the show says dogs must be on a leash, then put your freaking dog on a leash.

Not “unless he’s friendly.”
Not “unless he has good recall.”
Not “unless you don’t feel like it.”

On. A. Leash.

I leash mine because I know he’s aggressive. That’s called being a responsible owner.

So when your off-leash dog comes sprinting across the grounds to “say hi,” guess who’s left trying to haul my dog backwards and cut off his air to keep yours from getting hurt?

Me.

And somehow I’m the one dealing with the consequences of your decision.

The leash rule isn’t there just for people with reactive dogs. It’s there because nobody knows how two unfamiliar dogs are going to react, especially in a busy, stressful environment full of horses, kids, golf carts, and distractions.

You love your dog? Great.

Then protect it.

Because if your off-leash dog runs up to the wrong one someday, it may not end with someone simply pulling their dog away.

Leash your dog. The rule applies to everyone, not just the people responsible enough to follow it.
