Today we're shining the spotlight on another local business participating in our 1st Annual Pumpkins for Paws Decorating Contest!

And there's a pretty interesting story behind this one! ❤️

Red's Quick L**e & Tire is a locally operated business run by Carmen Wentzel and Dustin Lewis!

Dustin brought nearly 20 years of experience in the quick-lube industry to the business, which opened in 2023 right here in Swainsboro.

And the name RED'S? It comes from Dustin's nickname! ❤️

Together, Carmen and Dustin have helped turn an old gas station into the recognizable red and black automotive shop on North Main Street.

Their business was even featured in National Oil and L**e News magazine earlier this year! That's some hometown recognition worth celebrating! 👏

🐾 GEORGIA PAWtners — BECAUSE RESCUE WORKS BETTER WHEN WE KNOW EACH OTHER

One of the biggest problems in animal rescue is not always a lack of people willing to help.

Sometimes it is simply that the person with the animal, the person with an open foster home, the rescue with space, and the volunteer willing to drive are all in different places and do not know each other exist.

That is why Georgia PAWtners was created.

It is a statewide networking group for:

🐾 Rescues
🐾 Shelters
🐾 Foster families
🐾 Transporters
🐾 Volunteers
🐾 Animal advocates

The goal is simple: connect people.

Share animals that need placement. Find transport. Locate rescue partners. Share resources. Help one another solve problems instead of every county trying to work alone.

Emanuel County cannot rescue its way out of every problem by itself, and neither can any other community.

But together, our reach gets a whole lot bigger.

If you are involved in rescue, sheltering, fostering, transportation, or animal advocacy anywhere in Georgia, we would love to have you join Georgia PAWtners.

🎃🐾 PUMPKIN FOR PAWS BUSINESS SPOTLIGHT: QUEENSBOROUGH BANK

Meet Miss Pennie Bank. 👑🎃

She is Queensborough Bank’s entry in our Pumpkin for Paws contest, and she gets to be our first contestant feature.

While going back through old Humane Society records, we found something we thought was worth sharing: Queensborough has been supporting the Emanuel County Humane Society since at least 2011.

That means their support goes back to some of the earliest years after the Humane Society reorganized, and we think that kind of long-term community support deserves to be recognized.

Queensborough itself has deep Georgia roots. The bank was founded in 1902 and has spent more than a century emphasizing community banking and personal relationships. Today it has locations across Georgia, including the Swainsboro branch on South Main Street.

We are grateful to businesses like Queensborough that have supported local organizations year after year, and we love seeing them jump in and have a little fun with Pumpkin for Paws too. ❤️

🐾 PUBLIC FORUM FOLLOW-UP: WHAT WE KNOW NOW

The public animal shelter forum was never supposed to be a one-night conversation.

We said we would keep following up on the questions, concerns, and commitments raised that evening, and that work is continuing.

At our latest Humane Society meeting, we discussed several updates involving shelter improvements, cremation of euthanized animals, animal-welfare donations, and the City’s adoption fee.

Some of those items are moving forward. Others still need written clarification or final confirmation before we treat them as settled policy.

One thing we are committed to is correcting information when better information becomes available.

Transparency does not mean pretending we already have every answer. It means continuing to ask the questions, documenting the answers, correcting the record when necessary, and telling the public clearly what is confirmed and what is still being worked out.

Richard Claxton has agreed to help arrange a follow-up meeting with the City so these conversations can continue directly.

We will keep updating the community as information is verified.
