Does your puppy jump up, grab your clothes, or nip at your hands when they get excited?
Joey is a 6-month-old French Bulldog who already learned how to sit with treats. Now we’re working on something harder: staying in that sit even when the reward is right in front of him.
I slowly bring the treat toward Joey. If he gets impatient and jumps up for it, he doesn’t get the reward yet. He has to stay seated and wait.
And getting the treat does NOT mean the exercise is finished. I count to three, then give his release word, “OK.”
That little detail matters. Joey is learning that excitement doesn’t automatically mean jumping, grabbing, or getting what he wants immediately.
