🌸🐾 Allergy Awareness🐾🌸

If your pet is itching, licking, scratching, or chewing like it’s their full-time job.. allergies might be to blame!🍀
Pet allergies are more common than you think & can develop at any age. If left unmanaged the trauma to the skin barrier can cause a secondary infection. 🙀

⚠️Common signs of allergies in pets:
•Constant itching or scratching
•Recurrent ear infections or head shaking
•Licking or chewing paws
•Red, inflamed skin or hot spots
•Vomiting or diarrhea (sometimes food-related allergies)

Common allergy triggers:
🌿 Pollen, grass, mold, and dust mites
🍗 Food ingredients (like certain proteins)
🦟 Fleas—even ONE bite can cause a big reaction!

Allergies are often lifelong, but with the right plan, your pet can be comfortable, happy, and itch-free 💙🐾

‼️🔦✨SPECIAL INTERN SPOTLIGHT️✨️🔦‼️

All the way from Utah State University, we were so HAPPY to welcome Veterinary student Xander Hemmert !

He traveled over 20 HOURS just to hangout with us & the clinic for 2 weeks! Our clinic had such fun with him joining our crew!🚗🗺

Xander is heading into his 3rd year of Veterinary School which he will continue at Washington State University College Of Veterinary Medicine to finish his Veterinary degree. 📚🔬 He brought plenty of hard work, great energy, and a passion for learning!

🐖🚜Before chasing the veterinary dream, he worked on a ranch & raised swine, but after discovering a love for small animal medicine, puppies and kittens officially won him over 🐶🐱

🩺From helping around the clinic to soaking up every learning opportunity (& probably collecting a little fur along the way)🫣, he quickly became part of the crew. We loved having him with us & know he has an amazing future ahead in veterinary medicine!🥼🐾

Thanks for spending the last two weeks with us, we’ll miss having you around!😸

⚠️ QUICK SAFETY ALERT⚠️

Toy Size Matters! 🐾

We had a scary incident at the clinic today: a dog arrived with a ball stuck in its throat. Our Doctors and Technicians were quick to jump into action with all hands on deck. Thankfully, the pup is recovering, but it’s a vital reminder to check your dog’s toy box.

The Goldilocks Rule for Toys💛

●A toy is TOO SMALL if it can fit entirely behind your dog’s back molars.

●Play it Safe size Up: If you’re between sizes, always go larger. Large breeds should never play with small or medium balls.

●The "Squish" Factor: Avoid toys that can compress and then expand in the throat.

●Supervise: No toy is 100% "safe" for solo play, especially for strong chewers.

❤️Please double-check that your pet's toys are appropriate for their size. If you ever suspect your pet is choking, contact a vet immediately!

🐾💙 Happy National Therapy Dog Day! 💙🐾

🔦Patient Spotlight: Our Favorite Comfort Hero!🔦
CHARITY
Some patients come in for care and end up caring for everyone else too. 💕
🐕‍🦺She isn’t just a good dog, she is a comfort dog who spends her day bringing calm, love, and reassurance to people who need it most.
With just a gentle nuzzle or wagging tail, she can help reduce stress, lower blood pressure, ease anxiety, and brighten even the toughest days.
Therapy dogs are specially trained to remain calm, friendly, and adaptable in many environments and their impact is truly life-changing.😍
🏫Charity has visited the Hamilton District schools to help students from 4k through High School during the tragic incidents where they had lost loved students.
She also helps with stress during exam times and brings more smiles at school events.
🚑Bell Ambulance experienced a loss of one of their own, and Charity visited in their time of grief.
Recently she visited the staff at the Emergency Department of Aurora Sinai Medical Center in Milwaukee after a fatal incident.
A comforting presence to those of the C.O.P.S. Kid’s Camp, a program for sweet kids that lost a parent in the line of duty, was incredibly impactful at the airport on their way home.
There are even times where she gets to travel to help spread love & comfort to those traveling on United Airlines during the holiday season.
After tragic shootings in the Minneapolis MN, Boulder, CO, Thousand Oaks, CA, Perry, IA, and Uvalda, TX areas,Charity brought comfort to the communities.
She makes regular visits bringing smiles to the Menomonee Falls Fire Department, Froedtert & the Medical College of Wisconsin, Police stations, Churches, Schools, charities, and events to continue lighting up as many lives as she can.
It's such a beautiful extraordinary gift that she provides.

To Charity and all the therapy dog teams out there: THANK YOU for the compassion and joy you spread every day. 💙🐶

Just a reminder of how important it is to protect our pets & ourselves from the tiny creatures that can cause big problems.

🔍 Common Parasites in Pets:
•Fleas & ticks: cause itching, skin infections, and can transmit diseases like Lyme disease
•Heartworms: spread by mosquitoes, can damage the heart and lungs
•External mites: lead to ear infections, hair loss, and skin irritation

💩Intestinal (f***l) parasites: these live in your pet’s digestive tract and are passed in their stool.
Common types include:
•Roundworms: especially common in puppies & kittens; can cause vomiting, diarrhea, and a pot-bellied appearance
•Hookworms: attach to the intestinal lining; can cause anemia and weakness
•Tapeworms: usually spread by fleas; may look like small rice-like segments in the stool
•Whipworms: can lead to diarrhea, weight loss, and dehydration
•Giardia: Protozoan that live in the intestinal tract, not a worm. Can cause loose stool, vomiting & diarrhea.
•Coccida: Single-celled organism, not a worm, that lives in the lining of the intestinal tract. Can cause bloody loose stools.

🩺 F***l Parasite Prevention & Care:
Schedule regular f***l exams, even healthy appearing pets can carry worms
Keep litter boxes, kennels, and yards clean
Prevent flea infestations (tapeworms often spread via fleas)
Treat promptly if parasites are detected, most infections are easily managed with medication

💡 Important Note: Many intestinal parasites can infect humans, especially children, so keeping pets parasite-free protects the whole family.

🌍🐾 World Spay Day ✂️❤️

Today we recognize World Spay Day!
A day dedicated to highlighting the importance of spaying and neutering pets for their health, behavior,
and our communities.

🐶Why spaying and neutering matters:🐱

🔸Helps prevent unwanted litters and reduces pet overpopulation,
🔹 Lowers the risk of certain cancers and serious infections,
🔸Spaying females reduces the risk of uterine infections (pyometra) and mammary cancer,
🔹Neutering males reduces the risk of testicular cancer and some prostate issues
🔸Can decrease roaming, marking, and certain hormone-driven behaviors
🔹Helps pets live longer, healthier lives

🩺When should pets be spayed or neutered?
Timing can vary based on species, breed,
size and individual health.

🐕Smaller canines are recommended around 6
months of age.
🐩Medium sized canines are mostly recomended
around 8 months to 12 months.
🐕‍🦺Large & Giant sized canines are recommended to
wait until 12 months to 18 months of age,
or even up to 2 years old, to allow proper
skeletal and joint development.

🐈‍⬛Felines are recommended to be spayed or
neutered before they reach sexual
maturity which is around 4 to 6 months of age.

It is always best to consult with your Veterinarian
to help determine the best plan for your pet. 💕

A loving choice of spaying and neutering is
one of the most impactful decisions you
can make for your pet’s long term health and
it helps countless animals in need
by reducing overcrowding in shelters.😻❣️

🦷 February is Dental Health Month 🦷

Dental disease affects dogs and cats as they age. Most pets don’t show obvious signs of pain. That means problems are often well-advanced before they’re noticed at home.

Dental disease doesn’t just stay in the mouth. Bacteria from infected teeth and gums can enter the bloodstream and contribute to damage in vital organs.

⚠️ Common signs of dental disease include:
• Bad breath
• Red, swollen, or bleeding gums
• Tartar buildup
• Dropping food or chewing on one side
• Pawing at the mouth or decreased appetite

🦷 Why professional dental cleanings matter:
• Allow full evaluation of teeth and gums (including below the gumline)
• Remove painful infection and diseased teeth when needed
• Help prevent progression of periodontal disease
• Improve comfort, overall health, and quality of life
Routine dental exams, cleanings, and at-home care are essential parts of your pet’s preventative healthcare.

🪥You can always help your pet at home (if they allow) by brushing the outside of their teeth with a pet toothbrush or even using a gauze square or wash cloth.
