It’s been nothing but mud and gray skies lately… boots stuck, horses dirty, everything feeling a little heavy.
And then today, the sun finally showed up! ☀️
Drying things out, lighting everything up, and reminding us that better days are always in there somewhere. 🐴

Let’s talk about saddle position 👇

This is something I see misunderstood all the time, and it makes a huge difference in how the saddle fits and how the horse moves.

When a saddle sits too far forward, it rests on top of the scapula. The scapula needs to rotate back with every stride. If the saddle blocks that movement, you often see:
• Shortened stride in the front end
• Tight or hollow back
• More bounce or instability behind the saddle
• Resistance, girthiness, or unwillingness to go forward

When the saddle is placed just behind the shoulder, it allows the scapula to move freely. This does a few important things:
• The tree points sit where the horse can actually support weight
• The panels make more even contact through the back
• The saddle stabilizes instead of rocking
• The horse can lift through the back and move correctly

Forward placement might look secure, but it often creates more movement and discomfort in the long run. Correct placement may feel slightly farther back than people expect, but it allows the whole system horse, saddle, and rider to work together instead of against each other.

If you’re unsure where your saddle should sit, take a photo from the side while your horse is standing square and I’m happy to help you take a look 👀

Starting New Years off strong! 💪🏼 ✨

Night riders first ride was a HUGE success! Short, light, and sweet today with this upcoming 3-year-old stallion 🖤 Just the basics…keeping it easy, positive, and low pressure. These early rides are all about building confidence, understanding, and trust. Going slow and steady now sets the foundation for a calm mind, a willing partner, and a solid future. No rush, just doing right by him and letting him grow the right way! The ground work really pays off! 🥰

✨ Peeps first time learning to stand tied! ✨

Teaching your horse to stand tied builds patience, confidence, and self control. It helps them stay calm in new situations and busy environments, makes grooming and vet visits easier, and creates a safer experience for both horse and handler. There so many benefits to teaching a horse to tie and stand.

A little practice goes a long way! 👏🏼

Starting to see the early signs of collection here as he begins to engage from behind and lift through his back. It’s a slow and steady process, but this is where it all begins! 💪🏼

Look at this handsome fella 😍…FM Night Rider 2 year old stallion!

This boy has the greatest brain, temperament, athleticism, bone, feather…he has it all! 🙌🏼 Next will be head carriage…relaxation and rewarding when that head comes down and keeping that forward motion to get that natural collection. ❤️‍🔥

I can’t wait to show him in the future! 🏆
