I had a productive lesson with the handsome Beau and his mom yesterday. Beau is a young Border Collie mix with what seems like endless energy! Mom requested help with leash manners and tips for managing behaviors in the home which we were able to get started on improving yesterday.

The adorable Frenchie mix, Luke, visited with me for a couple days of training. When I met with Luke and his family last week for a lesson, he exhibited a bit more reactive behaviors than his parents felt comfortable tackling on their own. So we decided to add in Day & Train visits where I would work more with him on his leash behaviors around other dogs and people.

This little guy progressed so much in the past week and really came to terms with understanding what is and isn’t allowed on leash. He actually loves other dogs as you see in some of the pics; he just needed some clarity on how to regulate his strong emotions better!

Time to celebrate Winston! I began working with him and his family when he was just a puppy, not long after I moved to NC. He completed a training program, and I had the privilege of seeing him for day and overnight visits after when needed.

They are moving today to another part of the state, and I’m going to miss spending time with this handsome Golden and his wonderful parents! Thank you for letting me be a part of your life and all the best in your new home! 🐶🐾❤️

Allow me to introduce Bailey! She is a hound mix (?) who is being fostered through Empowering Pawz. I’m helping evaluate and train her while her foster mom is out of town.

For some reason, in her short life (not even a year old yet), Bailey has been in multiple homes. And we truly are perplexed as to why. She is so sweet-natured and playful. Did she need to learn some basic manners? Sure, just like all puppies!
But with time and consistency, Bailey is showing to be one smart cookie who loves other dogs and people. She is learning to walk nicely on leash, how to wait and hold a sit and that the crate is a nice place to rest and settle. She will play nicely with other dogs or by herself and then literally just flops to rest and recover.

Being part hound, she does enjoy following her nose and likes to watch birds in flight, but already she is understanding Enough to be quiet and Leave it to not give chase (also learning that cats are friends and don’t enjoy being chased around the yard!).

More to come on this gorgeous pup as we work together!

Doing nothing while I do something! It doesn’t take a lot of effort to help a dog learn to chill when there’s stuff going on around them. Practicing inside and using a leash to have your dog just hang out with you after play or training is the start to teaching an off switch. Ripley started with me last week and would have small fits if he couldn’t see me or follow right where I was. But after practice at each visit, he has learned to handle separation and the art of doing nothing better this week!

Ripley is back this week for a few days of school. He was busy today exploring and taking in so many sights and sounds at the park and new spaces. We practiced recall around distractions quite a bit today as well as having to observe and do nothing as it’s good to have the ability to turn that switch off!

Had the pleasure of meeting the adorable meathead, Luke! His parents called for help with a few things, one being his behavior on leash when he sees dogs. We addressed several issues in the home as well as his leash manners.

Luke has strong opinions, so he will be joining me next week for a few Day Training visits to continue working on his mindset and leash skills!
