A little puppy fun. A little real-world obedience. A little AKC Canine Good Citizen work. And a whole lot of dogs and owners learning how to communicate better together. ❤️
Whether you’re building confidence with a young puppy, practicing obedience around distractions, or working toward your AKC Canine Good Citizen (CGC) title, we’ve got opportunities to train this week!

Would your dog stay put if you walked away… or skipped away? 🐕💨

At Saturday’s 11:30 group class, each dog was assigned a sit or down while their owner moved away. We started with short distances and built up to longer ones. Then we changed how the owners moved: slowly, at a normal pace, and even skipping!

The dogs had to hold their position, stay focused despite other dogs nearby, and wait until their owners called them back.

That’s what makes a stay and recall useful in everyday life. We practice through changing movement and distractions so dogs and owners can build those skills together. ❤️

🐾 THE REAL COST OF DOG TRAINING — PART 2

A dog training evaluation is about much more than watching your dog sit.

We evaluate behavior, temperament, confidence, communication, training history, and responses to distractions. We also need to understand what is happening at home, what you have already tried, and what you need daily life with your dog to look like.

Your goals matter too.

Six animals. Six different training goals. One very busy—and incredibly fun—day at K9 Fluent! 🐶🐱

In this video:

🐾 Rubie, the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, practices recall and Place—two valuable skills for building reliability and impulse control.

🐾 Oakley, the Brittany, works on an emergency Sit—a potentially lifesaving command that can stop a dog before entering an unsafe situation.

🐾 Chi Chi, the Border Collie, practices the same emergency Sit because safety skills should be trained before they are ever needed.

🐾 Waffles, our rescue pitty, learns how to play bow, communicate, and interact appropriately with dogs. Positive, carefully supervised experiences help build confidence and healthy relationships between species.

🐾 Finn, the Australian Shepherd, conquers the teeter-totter while developing balance, body awareness, confidence, and trust.

🐾 Nashville, the Boston Terrier, practices obedience in his favorite room—even though he would much rather be playing on the agility equipment! Working around something a dog loves is a great way to strengthen focus and impulse control.

Dog training is not one-size-fits-all. Every animal has different needs, motivations, challenges, and goals. Our job is to meet them where they are and help them move forward.

🇺🇸 25 Years Later—We Will Never Forget

On September 11, 2001, our nation experienced unimaginable loss. Today, on the 25th anniversary of 9/11, we remember the lives taken, the families forever changed, and the courageous first responders who ran toward danger to help others.

Alongside those heroes were hundreds of search-and-rescue dogs and their handlers. These incredible K9 teams searched through dangerous debris, helped locate survivors and victims, and offered comfort during some of the darkest days in our nation’s history.

Their work was a powerful reminder of what can be accomplished through trust, communication, courage, and the extraordinary bond between people and dogs.

At K9 Fluent Professional Dog Training, our everyday work is very different—but that same human-and-dog partnership remains at the heart of what we do. Dogs are capable of incredible things when we take the time to understand them, communicate clearly, and build a relationship grounded in trust and respect.

Today, we pause to honor every life lost, every person who responded, and every K9 and handler who served.

Twenty-five years later, we remember.
We honor.
We will never forget. 🇺🇸🐾

Brain: “Remember that dog from earlier?”

Me: “Yes.”

Brain: “I have some thoughts.”

Me: “Of course you do.” 🤦‍♀️

The behavior happen THERE instead over THERE. Did we explain it clearly enough to the owner? What should we change tomorrow?

Dog trainers may leave the facility…

Our brains apparently do not. 😂

Good training means constantly observing, learning, adjusting, and asking WHY.

🇺🇸🐾 HAPPY LABOR DAY FROM K9 FLUENT! 🐾🇺🇸

Today is about taking a well-earned break, enjoying the people we love… and obviously including the dogs. Because according to them, every holiday is actually about them. 😂🐶

Whether your Labor Day includes:

☀️ A morning walk or hike
🌭 A backyard BBQ with a four-legged supervisor
🎾 A serious game of fetch
💦 Some water fun
😴 Or absolutely NOTHING except relaxing together…

Make your dog part of the day!

And remember—holidays are also great opportunities to practice those everyday training skills. Place while food is being prepared, polite greetings when guests arrive, leash manners on your adventures, and recall during safe outdoor fun.

Training doesn’t always have to look like a formal training session. Sometimes it looks like simply living life together. ❤️
