🎆 PSA from your pets: Fireworks are rude. 🎆

While some pets couldn’t care less about the booms and bangs… others will be filing formal complaints with management (you) by approximately 8:07 PM on July 4th. 🐶🐱

If your pet usually needs calming medication to survive fireworks season, now’s the time to call and get that taken care of!

Don’t wait until the day of—prescriptions take time to review and prepare, and we’d much rather help you plan ahead than have your dog trying to become one with your bathtub at the last minute.

Let’s make this Fourth of July less ✨panic✨ and more ✨snacks + snuggles✨.

📞 Give us a call to request refills or discuss options for your pet.

🐾 We’re paws-ing appointments for a good cause… 🐾

Today our team is sneaking out for a quick celebration to support one of our favorite local small businesses — Vampire Penguin! 🎉🐧🍧

To attend their ribbon cutting, Patriot Paws Animal Hospital will be closed from 11:45 AM–1:30 PM today.

🩺 We’ll still be seeing appointments:
☀️ 8:00 AM–11:30 AM
🌤️ 1:40 PM–3:30 PM

⏰ We’ll wrap up and close for the weekend at 3:45 PM.

Don’t worry — the pets approved this schedule (mostly because nobody wants to miss out on supporting local 😎).

Thank you for your understanding and for supporting small businesses right alongside us. We’ll be back and ready to see your furry family members shortly! ❤️🐾

✨ Please join us in welcoming some new faces to the Patriot Paws Animal Hospital family! ✨

We’re excited to continue growing our team and introducing the amazing people who will be helping care for your pets.

🐾 Sonya has been with us for a few months now and is currently pursuing her veterinary technician license! She just has one more step until she can put those three letters behind her name and we're excited to support her in reaching that goal!

🐾 Courtney is joining us as a veterinary nurse and is currently pursuing her veterinary technician license. We’re excited to support her as she continues her education and grows in the profession!

🐾 Dakota is joining us as a veterinary assistant and is eager to dive in and learn all that veterinary medicine has to offer. We can’t wait to watch that passion turn into experience!

🐾 Anzleigh & Paige are both current Clemson University pre-vet students joining us seasonally as they work toward their goal of attending veterinary school in the future. We’re honored to be a small part of their journey and excited to help them gain hands-on experience along the way.

Please help us give them all a warm Patriot Paws welcome when you see them around the clinic! ❤️🐶🐱

🚨 PARVO ALERT 🚨

We’ve seen TWO cases of canine parvovirus this week alone… and it’s only Wednesday.

Parvo is a highly contagious virus that primarily affects puppies and unvaccinated dogs. It attacks rapidly dividing cells in the body, especially the intestinal tract, leading to severe illness.

🐾 Common signs of Parvo:
• Vomiting
• Severe diarrhea (often bloody)
• Lethargy
• Loss of appetite
• Fever
• Dehydration

Parvo spreads easily through contact with infected dogs or contaminated environments—and because the virus can survive in the environment for long periods, prevention matters.

💉 The good news? Prevention is highly effective through proper vaccination.

✨ And there’s exciting news in treatment too!
A newer treatment option called the canine parvovirus monoclonal antibody injection has been a game changer in veterinary medicine. This treatment works by helping neutralize the virus and can improve outcomes when used as part of a comprehensive treatment plan.

Parvo can still be serious, but advances in care are giving us more tools to help these patients recover.

If your puppy is overdue for vaccines, showing signs of illness, or you’re unsure if they’re protected—give us a call. Early treatment can make a huge difference. ❤️🐶

🚔🐾 Behind every hardworking K9 is a team helping keep them healthy.

A few weeks ago, K9 Officer Dom traded patrol for preventive care and spent the day with us at Patriot Paws Animal Hospital for his dental procedure. Follow along from check-in to recovery and get a behind-the-scenes look at what a pet (or K9!) dental day can look like.

Professional update: Dom recovered beautifully and was back up like nothing ever happened. His only documented complaint appears to be our recovery suite décor… because every single blanket was thoughtfully pushed into the corner 😅

Dental care plays an important role in overall health—not just for comfort, but for helping support long-term wellness and keeping our four-legged heroes feeling their best.

Stay until the end for a special message from Dr. B 🦷🇺🇸🐶

🌧️🐾 Leptospirosis is on the rise — and it’s something every pet owner should know about!

Leptospirosis (“lepto” for short) is a bacterial disease that can affect BOTH dogs and humans. It’s commonly spread through standing water, mud, puddles, wildlife urine, and contaminated environments. With all the recent rain and warm weather, the risk increases significantly.

🐶 Dogs can become infected by:
💧 Drinking from puddles or ponds
🦝 Contact with wildlife (especially raccoons, rodents, and opossums)
🌿 Walking through contaminated grass or soil

Signs of leptospirosis in dogs may include:
⚠️ Fever
⚠️ Vomiting or diarrhea
⚠️ Lethargy
⚠️ Increased thirst or urination
⚠️ Loss of appetite
⚠️ Kidney or liver issues in severe cases

🐱 While cats are less commonly affected, they are NOT completely immune.

The good news? There is a vaccine available for dogs that helps protect against leptospirosis! Whether your pup spends abundant time outdoors, hikes, visits parks, or even just loves puddles, vaccination is considered part of the core series 💉

If you'd like to schedule an appointment for your pet, give us a call — we’re happy to help keep your furry family members safe and healthy! ❤️🐾
