I was thinking about my dogs this morning, not just the four here now, but all of them that we have had the privilege of caring for....21....so far.
As all of you know, our pets can be costly. OK, we get it. To some people, that alone would be reason enough not to get a pet. To others, "it's just a dog." Again, OK to think like that...I guess. To Sam and I, every single dog that has come through here becomes family...or a new member to our pack.
And you know what, we wouldn't trade a minute of it. Not a minute.
To me, dogs are an amazing invention that humans should care for, to love. And also because these amazing animals teach us so much about ourselves. Empathy, laughter, tears, sorrow, sheer joy, forgiveness, and unconditional love. Things humans all can be very bad at.
So as Sam and I get older, having eight pups here again is probably out of the question, but I do think we'll always have "some" here. We like to laugh and every single dog that has shown up here has always done that for us. And that alone is enough.
So I hope you love your animals as much as ours are loved here. Knowing so many of you like I do, they are.
The dog...one of God's greatest gifts.
