SHAPING FOR THE INDEPENDENT-MINDED. Chief is a Great Pyrenees who just likes to do his thing. I used shaping to train in frequent eye contact and a recall. I used a clicker, but a verbal marker works as well. Turns out, Chief is very motivated to earn food scatters, especially around objects on the patio. He became proficient at sniffing out kibbles in the grass and mulch, too.

ACCEPTING CONTAINMENT. There are many puppies and young dogs who have yet to experience any significant alone time or tolerate containment other than at night.
