5 tips for potty training a puppy!

1. Make sure you utilize a crate! Having the RIGHT SIZE crate is important. Puppy should have enough room to stand up comfortably, spin around and lay down. If there is too much extra space, puppy will potty in a corner and go lay away from it. If they can't get away from the mess, they won't want to make it. Dogs don't like to sleep where they potty! Also, avoid putting beds, blankets, etc in their crate. This encourages them to p*e in the crate, because just like a diaper on a baby, the blankets/beds are absorbent and they won't think twice about p*eing on them.

2. Your puppy shouldn't get free rein of your home until they can be trusted not to soil your floors! They especially love to potty on carpet. Again, because it's absorbent. Confine pup to a small area of your house so you can keep a better eye on them and pick up on the signs that they may need to go out!

3. If you don't have them confined to either a crate or one small area of your home, they should always be by YOU. Keep them on the leash with you as you go about your day thoughout the house. This will help you bond with puppy and again, you'll be able to catch them sniffing around for a place to squat.

4. Puppies need to go out A LOT. Take pup outside every hour or two to encourage pottying outside. Be sure to take them out every time they eat. Puppies typically need to p**p very shortly after they eat. In food, out food. Also, limit water intake. Letting puppy drink insane amounts of water will guarantee they will need to p*e even more frequently. They have tiny bladders!

5. Pottying outside deserves lots of praise (goooood girl/boy!!) lots of pets and TREATS. Every successful potty outdoors should get all three. Treats, praise, pets. ❤️

Just like potty training a toddler, this takes time, patience and CONSISTENCY. Stay persistent.. you've got this!
