Meet Jess! She's one of our veterinary assistants and a proud mom to Bowen 💚

When she’s not caring for your pets, you’ll find her surrounded by plants, cheering on the Michigan Wolverines, or hanging out with her dog Forrest and four cats.

Say hi to Jess next time you’re in! 👋

Begging doesn’t always mean your pet needs more food 👀

Pets can learn that begging gets them treats, attention, or a little something from your plate. Before giving in to those puppy eyes, try offering some playtime, attention, or a walk instead.

Not sure if your pet is getting the right amount of food? Your veterinary team can help you find the right balance for their individual needs 💚

Your cat used to land on the bed without thinking, and now she waits at the edge and settles on the floor instead. That stiffness usually is not just age, it is arthritis or a painful joint, and both are treatable. At Cane Bay Veterinary Clinic, a quiet exam and X-rays find the source, and multiple options are available to help your senior cat be comfortable enough to leap to the windowsill again.

Is your senior cat slowing down, or in pain? Chronic pain in older cats is treatable, from arthritis meds to dental fixes. Learn the signs and what helps.

Some of the things we do as a Fear Free practice might look a little different 👀

A successful visit isn’t just about what we accomplish medically. It’s also about how your pet feels when they leave, and how they feel about coming back 💚

There’s nothing better than knowing our patients and their people feel comfortable in our care 💙

Thank you, Marla, for trusting our team with your pup! We’re so happy to have you both as part of the Cane Bay Vet family.

Fall in Summerville brings more than cooler weather! 🍂

Dr. Hill is sharing a few seasonal reminders to help keep your pets safe as we head into the fall months:

⚠️  Hurricanes: Make sure your pet’s emergency kit is stocked, their medications are up to date, and you have a plan for where they’ll go if you need to evacuate.

⚠️  Heat: Even though temperatures are starting to cool down, Summerville can still have some hot days. Never assume it’s cool enough for a long walk or time outdoors.

⚠️ Parasite prevention: Cooler weather doesn’t mean it’s time to stop prevention! Fleas, ticks, and other parasites can still pose a risk to pets, so staying consistent with their year-round prevention is important.

⚠️ Holidays: Halloween and the holiday season bring plenty of potential hazards. Keep anything potentially harmful out of paw’s reach and give your pets a quiet, safe space when things get hectic.

📌 Send this to a fellow Summerville pet parent!

Extra thirst. A few more naps. Tiring out halfway through a usual walk. Those look like ordinary aging, but they are often the first quiet sign of kidney, thyroid, or heart disease in a senior dog or cat. Our latest post walks through what senior screening looks for and why we check twice a year.

Extra thirst, a few more naps, tiring on a walk: the quiet signs pet families miss. See what senior screening catches before your dog or cat acts sick.
