☀️🔥 DR. KLEIN’S SUMMER SAFETY REMINDER 🔥☀️

South Carolina summers can get HOT fast — and unfortunately, heat stroke in pets can become a life-threatening emergency quicker than many people realize.

As temperatures rise, it’s important to know the warning signs and when it’s time to seek emergency veterinary care.

🐾 Common signs of heat stroke include:
• Heavy panting or difficulty breathing
• Excessive drooling
• Bright red gums or tongue
• Weakness or wobbliness
• Vomiting or diarrhea
• Lethargy or collapse

🚨 Heat stroke IS an emergency if your pet:
• Cannot stand
• Has trouble breathing
• Begins vomiting repeatedly
• Has pale, purple, or very red gums
• Experiences seizures or collapse

💧 If you suspect overheating:
✔️ Move your pet to a cool shaded area immediately
✔️ Offer small amounts of cool water
✔️ Wet paws, belly, and armpits with cool (NOT ice cold) water
✔️ Use fans or air flow if available
✔️ Contact your veterinarian right away

⚠️ Remember:
Cars heat up dangerously within minutes, even with windows cracked. Hot pavement can also burn paw pads quickly during peak afternoon temperatures.

And as Pedro would like everyone to know:
“Napping dramatically in the AC is not laziness… it’s heat stroke prevention.” 😎🐾

Stay safe, stay hydrated, and help keep your furry family members cool this summer! ☀️💙

💚🐶 “IS MY DOG JEALOUS?” 🐶💚 With Dr. Pierce
A question I hear surprisingly often in exam rooms!

While dogs don’t experience jealousy exactly the way humans do, they can absolutely feel insecure, frustrated, or anxious when attention, routines, or relationships suddenly change. This is especially common when:
🐾 A new pet joins the family
🐾 A new baby arrives
🐾 One pet receives more attention
🐾 Favorite toys or spaces become “shared”
🐾 Household routines suddenly change

Some dogs may respond by:
⚠ Guarding toys or people
⚠ Pushing between pets or family members
⚠ Barking, whining, or acting out
⚠ Sulking or becoming clingy
⚠ Showing stress behaviors like pacing or appetite changes

The good news? Most of these behaviors can be improved with patience, structure, enrichment, and positive reinforcement. Helping each pet feel safe, secure, and included goes a long way toward restoring peace in the household. 💕

Remember — behavior is communication. Your dog isn’t trying to be “bad.” They’re trying to tell you how they’re feeling.

And according to Pedro… the real solution is simply making him the center of attention at all times. 👑🐱

👇 Have you ever had a pet who acted jealous? What did they do?

📦🐱 WHY DO CATS LOVE BOXES? 🐱📦 With Dr. Rice...

One of the funniest (and most relatable) feline behaviors… the obsession with boxes!

While it may seem silly to us, boxes actually serve an important purpose for cats. Enclosed spaces help them feel:
✔ Safe and secure
✔ Warm and comfortable
✔ Less stressed and anxious
✔ Hidden while they observe their surroundings

Cats are both predators and prey by nature, so having a cozy “hideout” helps them feel protected and in control of their environment. That’s why you’ll often find your cat squeezing into shipping boxes, laundry baskets, storage bins… or honestly anything remotely box-shaped. 😹

Boxes can also provide enrichment and mental stimulation, especially for indoor cats. Something as simple as leaving out a cardboard box can encourage:
🐾 Play and exploration
🐾 Relaxation and better sleep
🐾 Reduced stress behaviors
🐾 Natural hiding instincts

And according to Pedro… every box in the clinic belongs to him anyway. We’re just allowed to borrow them temporarily. 👑📦

What’s the funniest thing your cat has turned into their personal “box”?

Hug Your Cat Day 🤍🐾 A little reminder to slow down and appreciate the tiny moments with your feline companion. ✨

The purring beside you.
The head bumps.
The comforting presence that somehow makes every day better. 🐱

Cats may not ask for much, but they give us endless love in their own special way. 💛

Celebrate your furry best friend today with cuddles, treats, and plenty of love. 🫶

🐾 Reginald’s story is one that none of us will ever forget.

At only 8 months old, this sweet boy has already endured unimaginable neglect and cruelty. When Reginald arrived at Sangaree Animal Hospital, he was in critical condition and fighting for his life. Thanks to the fast response and teamwork of the local sheriff, animal cruelty officers, CVRC, and our dedicated Sangaree staff, Reginald received emergency life-saving surgeries and intensive medical care that gave him a second chance. ❤️

Today, Reginald is safe, surrounded by people who love him, and beginning his long road to recovery. But his journey is far from over. He still requires ongoing medical treatment, lifelong medications, special food, and continued supportive care to help him heal and grow into the happy, healthy dog he deserves to be.

The cost of Reginald’s care has already become significant and continues to grow as he receives the treatment he needs. Every donation made through his GoFundMe will go directly toward:
🐾 Hospital bills
🐾 Ongoing medical treatments
🐾 Lifelong medications
🐾 Prescription food and supportive care
🐾 Giving Reginald the future he deserves

We are beyond grateful for everyone who has already stepped in to help this brave little survivor. Your kindness, support, shares, prayers, and donations truly mean the world.

Thank you for helping us show Reginald that love is stronger than cruelty. 🐾

🐾📣 PEDRO’S OFFICIAL CAT BEHAVIOR ANNOUNCEMENT 📣🐾

Hello humans.
Pedro here. CEO. Hall monitor. Professional fish supervisor.

Recently, I noticed many of you believe your cats are being “dramatic.”
Allow me to clarify something very important:

✨ We are not dramatic.
✨ We are ✨emotionally complex✨.

That shredded toilet paper?
That 3AM zoomie marathon?
That mysterious screaming at the hallway wall?
Those are not “crimes.” Those are COMMUNICATION SKILLS.

Indoor cats need mental and physical stimulation every single day. When we get bored or stressed, we don’t always show it in obvious ways. Sometimes it shows up as:
🐾 scratching furniture
🐾 excessive meowing
🐾 hiding
🐾 overgrooming
🐾 aggression
🐾 pacing and restless behavior
🐾 sudden clinginess
🐾 “accidentally” knocking your drink off the counter

(That last one may still be personal.)

The good news?
A lot of behavior problems can improve with:
✔️ enrichment
✔️ routine
✔️ interactive toys
✔️ climbing spaces
✔️ playtime
✔️ safe hiding spots
✔️ regular veterinary care

Honestly, some of you just need to buy your cat another toy and stop interrupting our 14-hour nap schedule.

Please review my official educational poster carefully. I worked very hard supervising its creation from atop several important documents.

Signed,
🐾 Pedro

Your cat isn’t just being adorable… they’re basically a tiny therapist with whiskers. 🐱✨

From calming purrs and cozy cuddles to their quiet little companionship, cats have a magical way of making stressful days feel softer. 💛

🐾 Reducing stress
🐾 Lowering cortisol
🐾 Healing hearts one purr at a time

They may demand snacks at 3 AM and randomly sprint through the house… but somehow, they still make life feel calmer, warmer, and a whole lot better. 😺
