Trail riders have a very specific kind of optimism.

We look at a skinny trail carved into the side of a mountain, watch one rock bounce into the next county, feel our horse take one very careful step, and still say, “Yep. This is fine.”

Then we get to the other side and immediately start telling everyone it was the best ride ever.

Not because it was easy.

Because it was the part we’ll remember.
