Plant racks have been restocked and a few long-awaited additions are sitting pretty amongst the culinary herbs, Texas natives, and nectar-rich perennials 🫠🙌🏻

New additions include:

• Luffa gourd (Luffa aegyptiaca) — harvested young as a vegetable or left to mature into the familiar natural bath sponge.
• Lemon bee balm (Monarda citriodora) — a fragrant Texas native that attracts bees, butterflies, and other beneficial pollinators.
• Lamb’s Ear (Stachys byzantina) — beloved for its velvety silver leaves; historically used as a natural bandage for minor wounds and valued for its mild antibacterial properties.

We have more ‘Triple Crown’ blackberry plants ready for those looking to add fruiting perennials to their landscapes/gardens!

Today we pause to remember and honor the brave men and women who gave their lives in service to our country. We are deeply grateful for their sacrifice and the freedoms we enjoy because of them.

Tolleson Family Market will be closed today as we spend time with family and observe Memorial Day. We hope you all have a safe and meaningful holiday.

We’ll see you tomorrow!

Proof that a quart pot doesn’t tell the whole story 🌿

This Woodland to***co (Nicotiana sylvestris) showed up on its own in one of our raised beds and decided to make itself at home. Now it’s preparing for its summer bloom. Although this species is often associated with woodland settings, this particular plant has adapted beautifully to full sun…and it still has plenty of growing left to do.

If you’ve planted one of our Woodland to***co plants, consider this a preview of what’s ahead. With room to grow, it can become a beautiful focal point in the garden, with lush foliage, fragrant white flowers, and plenty of activity from pollinators and other wildlife.

A quick plant note: despite the name, this isn’t the to***co grown commercially for smoking. It’s an ornamental species prized for its impressive size, fragrant blooms, and ability to attract nighttime pollinators. Historically, various to***co relatives have also been used in traditional folk remedies.

Spotted on patrol: one very happy anole🦎
