Sealy School: Many years ago when I started in dog training, deprivation was common. We took away our dogs' toys and kept them only for training. Many people often crated their dogs for prolonged periods was so the only "fun" the dog had was the work you were going to ask it to do.
Today, we are better and more educated trainers. We understand that not only is derivation unnecessary, it is often detrimental the dog's performance and overall welbbeing.
Sealy LOVES squeaker toys. She doesn't always like giving them up. But understanding her preferences means I know she prioritizes the actual tug game over just having the toy, so I can use this to my advantage. So I am developing her concept of keeping the toy but still working while she has it. Obviously her reinforcement then is my interaction with her and the toy.
I have previously mentioned that video is a great way to improve your training. Can you identify the "major" error on my part with regard to my reinforcement?
