🐾 Six Toes & Twice the Cuteness! 🐾

Take a look at these adorable little patients we had in for surgery! 🐱💕 These siblings are polydactyl, which means they were born with extra toes on one or more of their paws.

Polydactyl cats are sometimes called “Hemingway cats” because author Ernest Hemingway famously adored them! Most cats have 18 toes total (5 on each front paw and 4 on each back paw), but polydactyl cats can have several more. 🐾

So, just how rare is it? Polydactyly is uncommon in cats overall, although it occurs more frequently in certain populations and breeds. It’s a fascinating genetic trait that can give their paws an extra-cute, mitten-like appearance! 🥹🐾

These two cuties may have a few extra toes, but they’re getting the same loving care as all of our patients here at Sugar Grove Animal Hospital. ❤️ From surgery to recovery, our team is always making sure your furry family members are comfortable, safe, and well cared for.

Would you count all those little toes?! 🐾😻

🐾 Cosmo’s on his way home! 💙

Cosmo wasn’t feeling his best when he came to stay with us, but after a few days of some much-needed IV fluids, plenty of TLC, and the wonderful care of Dr. Cozen and our team, this sweet boy is feeling better and ready to head home to his family! 🥰

And of course, no hospital stay is complete without a little tummy brushing. 🐶🪮💕

We know leaving your pet with us can be stressful, but we want you to know that while they’re here, they’re never just a patient — they’re part of our family. Our team gives them the same love, comfort, attention, and care we would want for our own pets. ❤️

So rest easy when your furry family member needs to stay with us. They’re in the best hands, getting lots of love while they work on feeling better. 🐾

We’re so happy to see you feeling better, Cosmo! Enjoy being back home with your family! 🏡💙

🐾 Behind the Desk at Sugar Grove Animal Hospital! 🐾

When you walk through our doors, our reception team is often the first friendly face you see—and there is SO much more happening behind that desk than meets the eye! 💙

Our receptionists are an incredibly important part of keeping our hospital running smoothly. From scheduling appointments 📅 and answering questions, to triaging patients when needed 🚨, communicating updates, and serving as the important middle ground between our clients and our doctors, they help make sure every patient receives the care and attention they deserve.

They are constantly juggling phone calls, messages, appointments, questions, paperwork, client needs, and so much more—all while helping keep our doctors and medical team informed and our day moving forward.

From their view behind the desk to our view looking out at the clients and pets they care for every day, we are reminded just how much they do for our hospital. 🥰🐶🐱

We are incredibly grateful for our reception team and all of their hard work, patience, compassion, and dedication. They truly are an essential part of the Sugar Grove Animal Hospital family, and we couldn't do what we do without them! 💙🐾

So next time you see one of our receptionists, give them a little extra appreciation—they're working hard behind the scenes to help keep your pets happy, healthy, and well cared for! 🐾❤️

Thank you for everything you do!

Have you ever wondered what happens when your pet needs an X-ray?

At Sugar Grove Animal Hospital, our X-ray equipment allows us to safely get a closer look at what’s happening inside your pet—helping our doctors diagnose and treat a wide variety of conditions. 🐶🐱

X-rays can help us evaluate things such as:

🦴 Broken or fractured bones
🫁 Changes within the chest and lungs
❤️ The size and shape of the heart
🩺 Abdominal organs and other internal structures
🐾 Arthritis and other orthopedic conditions
🔎 Foreign objects that may have been swallowed

Your pet’s safety is always our priority. Our team takes appropriate precautions during X-rays to minimize radiation exposure while obtaining the diagnostic images our doctors need. When positioning is necessary, we use proper safety equipment and techniques to protect both our patients and our team.

Sometimes, a picture really is worth a thousand words! 📸❤️

Our in-house diagnostic capabilities allow us to gather important information about your pet and help our doctors make informed decisions about their care.

☁️🐾 Overcast Monday Check-In! 🐾☁️

It may be cloudy outside, but our pets certainly know how to make a gray Monday a little brighter! 💕🐶🐱

🌟 Today’s Featured Pet: Pickles! 🌟
Pickles has the right idea for an overcast Monday — snuggled up, cozy, and fully committed to doing absolutely nothing today! 😂💤

Honestly, Pickles may have Monday figured out better than the rest of us. 🥰🐾

Now it’s YOUR turn! 📸👇
What is your pet doing on this overcast Monday? Drop a photo in the comments and show us!

Are they:

😴 Catching up on some serious napping?
🛋️ Snuggled up on the couch?
🧸 Playing with their favorite toy?
🍖 Waiting patiently for a snack?
🌧️ Watching the cloudy weather from the window?

We want to see those Monday faces! ❤️

Bonus points for the sleepiest, silliest, or most spoiled pet! 😂🐾

🐾 Prevention and early detection are the keys to a healthier, happier pet! 🐾

Did you know that one simple blood test can screen your dog for heartworm disease and three common tick-borne diseases?

At Sugar Grove Animal Hospital, we use the IDEXX 4Dx® Test to screen for:
❤️ Heartworm disease
🕷️ Lyme disease
🦠 Anaplasmosis
🦠 Ehrlichiosis

According to IDEXX, approximately 1 in 20 dogs tested in the U.S. has a positive result for heartworm disease or a tick-borne disease. Even dogs that seem perfectly healthy can be infected, which is why annual testing is so important.

🐶 What if my dog's test is negative?
That's great news! A negative result means no evidence of these diseases was found at the time of testing. The best way to keep it that way is to continue your dog's heartworm and tick prevention year-round and have them tested annually.

🩺 What if my dog's test is positive?
Don't panic! A positive screening test is not a diagnosis by itself. If your dog tests positive, our veterinary team will discuss the next steps, which may include additional confirmatory testing and a treatment or monitoring plan tailored specifically to your pet. Many dogs do very well when these diseases are detected early.

Year-round heartworm and tick prevention, combined with annual 4Dx testing, gives your pet the best chance of staying healthy. Early detection allows us to begin treatment sooner and can help prevent more serious complications.

📞 Call Sugar Grove Animal Hospital at (630) 466-7387 to schedule your dog's wellness exam and annual 4Dx test today. We're here to help keep your best friend protected all year long! 🐶💙

🐾💕 Patient Spotlight: Meet Ferris! 💕🐾

Sometimes our furry friends find themselves in some unexpected situations... and sweet Ferris, a 3-year-old kitty, recently had one of those moments. 🐱💔

After a little accident, Ferris came to Sugar Grove Animal Hospital with a fractured femur. Following a thorough examination with Dr. Turcotte and plenty of teamwork and discussion among our veterinary team, it was determined that the best way to get Ferris back to living her best life was to amputate her injured leg.

The good news? ❤️ Ferris is now recovering comfortably at home and is doing wonderfully! Cats are incredibly resilient, and before long she'll be back to climbing, playing, and enjoying life as a happy tripod. 🐾

She may still be giving us her signature grumpy face 😾... but don't let that fool you—she's feeling so much better!

Please join us in wishing Ferris a smooth recovery and many happy, healthy adventures ahead! 🩷🐈✨
