🐾💙 A Little Behind-the-Scenes Love! 💙🐾

You see your pets when they come through our doors, but there’s a whole lot of love happening behind the scenes that you don’t always get to see! 🥰

Over the years, our veterinary technicians have collected so many sweet moments with the patients we care for — cuddles, kisses, belly rubs, comfort during stressful moments, sleepy snuggles, and plenty of “I’ll just hold them for a minute” moments that turn into much longer ones. 😂❤️

Our patients may not be our own pets, but that doesn’t stop us from loving them like they are! 🐶🐱 Every patient who comes through our doors becomes a little part of our day, and caring for them is so much more than just a job.

So, as we celebrate Veterinary Technician Week, we wanted to share some of those special behind-the-scenes moments and show you just how much your pets are loved while they’re here with us. 🩺🐾

🐾 WHAT’S IN A VETERINARY TECHNICIAN’S POCKETS? 🐾
Ever wonder what a veterinary technician carries around all day? 😂

Well… apparently, a little bit of everything! 👀
✏️ Pens & Sharpies — because there is ALWAYS something to write down
🩸 Blood tubes — because you never know when a patient needs some lab work
🧴 Ointment — for those little “ouchies”
💉 A fresh needle — because safety first!
✂️ Nail trimmers & bandage scissors — somehow these make their way into our pockets, too
🦴 Random treats — because bribery is an important part of patient care 😉
🐱 And of course… a Churu — because some patients require the good stuff ❤️

And let's be honest… this isn't even everything! 😂
Being a veterinary technician means being prepared for just about anything. From blood draws and bandage changes to nail trims, medications, comforting nervous patients, and sneaking treats to the ones who need a little extra encouragement — you never know what the day will bring!

So the next time you see a technician walking around with pockets that look suspiciously full… now you know why! 😂🐾
It takes a lot to be a veterinary technician, and we wouldn’t have it any other way. ❤️

🐾💙 HAPPY NATIONAL VETERINARY TECHNICIAN WEEK! 💙🐾

Today kicks off National Veterinary Technician Week, and we couldn’t think of a better time to celebrate the incredible veterinary technicians who make such a difference every single day at Sugar Grove Animal Hospital! 🐶🐱

Our technicians do SO much more than many people realize. They are the ones who:

🩺 Assist with exams and help our doctors provide the best care possible
💉 Give vaccines, injections, medications, and treatments
🩸 Draw blood and run important diagnostic tests
🔬 Monitor lab work and help interpret results
💤 Place IV catheters and monitor anesthesia during surgery
🫀 Monitor patients’ heart rate, breathing, blood pressure, temperature, oxygen levels, and more
🏥 Care for hospitalized and recovering patients
🩹 Clean and bandage wounds
🦷 Assist with dental procedures
✂️ Prepare patients for surgery and help with recovery
🐾 Comfort nervous, scared, painful, and sometimes very wiggly patients
📞 Communicate with doctors and clients about patient care
🧼 Clean, sanitize, organize, stock, and prepare for the next patient
❤️ And so much more that happens behind the scenes every single day!

But perhaps one of the most important things they do is love your pets like they are their own. They celebrate the happy moments, comfort them during the scary ones, and are there for them through every step of their care.

Our technicians have held puppies and kittens for their very first vaccines, stayed beside patients while they recovered from anesthesia, comforted pets who were frightened or hurting, celebrated good test results, and supported families through some of their most difficult days. They give so much of themselves to the animals entrusted to their care.

This week, we’ll be sharing some photos we’ve collected throughout the years of our amazing technicians doing what they do best — caring for your pets! 🐾📸

🐾 Technician Spotlight: Brandy Ekle, CVT! 🐾

We’re so happy to have Brandy Ekle, CVT as part of the Sugar Grove Animal Hospital team! Brandy has been with us for the past 6 months and brings so much compassion and dedication to everything she does. ❤️

Brandy has always loved helping animals, and her favorite part of veterinary medicine is surgery! When she’s not caring for patients at the hospital, you can usually find her reading a good book or going for a run. 🏃‍♀️📚

Brandy is a true cat lover and is a proud cat mom to four cats of her own: Jimmy, Loki, Milo, and Berkley! 🐱🐱🐱🐱

And for a fun little fact… if Brandy weren’t working in veterinary medicine, she says she’d be a skydiver! 🪂 Talk about a change of pace!

🐾✨ MEET FINNICK! ✨🐾

Finnick stopped by Sugar Grove Animal Hospital for his annual exam and vaccines, but we have a feeling he knew exactly what he was doing when he walked through the door… 😎🐶

This handsome 4-year-old Goldendoodle showed up with his AMAZING hairdo and one seriously adorable smile! 💇‍♂️✨

We’re not sure if Finnick's hairstyle was carefully planned or if he simply woke up looking this fabulous — either way, he definitely made an impression! 😂❤️

Finnick was such a handsome guy and a great patient during his visit. We always love seeing those familiar furry faces for their yearly checkups! 🩺🐾

🦟🐜 HOW WELL DO YOU KNOW YOUR PET'S PARASITE PREVENTION? 🐶🐱

Have you ever looked at the wall of flea, tick, and heartworm preventatives at Sugar Grove Animal Hospital and wondered, “What does all of this stuff actually do?” 👀

We carry several different options because not every preventative protects against the same parasites! Here's a quick look at some of the products we offer:

💊 SIMPARICA TRIO
One monthly chew that provides protection against heartworm disease, fleas, ticks, roundworms, and hookworms. It also prevents flea tapeworm infections by killing the fleas that transmit them.

💊 SIMPARICA
A monthly chew that kills fleas and ticks. It does not provide heartworm prevention, so pets taking Simparica need a separate heartworm preventative.

💊 SENTINEL
A monthly chew that helps prevent heartworm disease and certain intestinal worms, while also stopping flea eggs from developing. It's important to know that Sentinel works differently from flea-killing products because it primarily breaks the flea life cycle rather than killing adult fleas.

💊 HEARTGARD
A monthly chew that prevents heartworm disease and treats/controls certain roundworms and hookworms. It does not provide flea or tick protection.

💊 NEXGARD
A monthly chew that kills adult fleas and ticks and helps prevent Lyme disease by killing the black-legged ticks that transmit it.

💊 BRAVECTO
Provides long-lasting flea and tick protection, depending on the specific formulation. Some Bravecto products are given every 12 weeks, while other formulations have different schedules.

💧 SELARID (REVOLUTION)
A monthly topical that helps protect against heartworm disease and fleas, along with certain other parasites depending on the species.

🐾 SERESTO
A collar that provides extended flea and tick protection rather than being a monthly chew or topical.

Did you know that Sugar Grove Animal Hospital has a donation bin for Between Friends Food Pantry right here at our hospital?

Between Friends Food Pantry helps local families in need, including families with pets. We’re happy to provide a convenient place for our clients and community members to drop off donations!

🛍️ Items they accept include:
🐶 Dog & cat food — opened is okay, as long as it is still in the original packaging
🐱 Lightly used dog & cat toys
🧺 Cages & crates
🚗 Pet carriers
🥫 Non-perishable food, such as canned goods or dry cereal

Have some extra pet food your furry friend no longer eats? A gently used toy your pet has outgrown? Or some non-perishable food you'd like to donate? Consider bringing it to our donation bin!

🇺🇸 REMEMBERING SEPTEMBER 11, 2001 🇺🇸

Today, we pause to remember and honor the nearly 3,000 innocent lives lost on September 11, 2001.

We remember the victims, the families who lost loved ones, the first responders who ran toward danger, and all those whose lives were forever changed that day.

🐾 We also remember the incredible search-and-rescue dogs who worked alongside their handlers, searching through the rubble and providing comfort to those at Ground Zero. Their strength, dedication, and unwavering loyalty were a remarkable part of the rescue and recovery efforts.

Today, we honor all who served, all who helped, and all who were affected.

We will never forget. ❤️🤍💙
