Last week, we completed the installation of 28 additional solar panels on our barn. Added to the 45 existing panels on the southern roof face of our home, these 73 panels will now double our previous capacity to 24kWh. While we already purchase any remaining power we need from 100% US-based wind farms, paired with our geothermal HVAC system, we hope this newly added capacity will bring us closer to our goal of being 100% carbon neutral through on site efficiency improvements and production!

If you live in Sudbury and are interested in our composted manure to fertilize your plantings, please reply to coordinate a delivery!

Now that the freezing temperatures are *almost* over with and growing season is rapidly picking up, we'll be fulfilling several orders in the next weeks while supply lasts. Our composted manure is unscreened and comprised mostly of horse droppings that have been allowed to decompose with other organic matter, and we never use any artificial chemicals, fertilizers, or insecticides on the property, rendering a rich, natural fertilizer perfect for gardens, plantings, yards, etc. that's best when turned over at approximately a 50/50 ratio with existing or delivered topsoil.

The composted manure is available for pick up at no cost or delivery at $80 for approximately one cubic yard of material. We can drop it at any location that can be accessed by truck or tractor with a 5-foot wide berth.

While I generally appreciate our smart cameras giving us a heads-up to keep us safe from potential harm, waking me up to a video of a "carbon monoxide alarm heard" that turns out to be a bird calling is not one of their finest moments...

Happy New Year from The Water's Edge!

Before we get too far into the new year, we wanted to thank everyone that has supported us in the past year, whether that's been by purchasing one of our product or services, contributing to our ongoing restoration work, leaving a review, or simply being a good neighbor or friend!

2026 is looking to be a big year on the farm. We're set to double our solar production from 12 to 24 kW by installing 28 additional solar panels along the south facing roof of our barn. Paired with our existing solar and geothermal systems, this will bring us closer to our goal of being carbon net neutral or negative. We're also hoping to complete our chicken coop restoration project, which has gradually evolved into a full barn restoration, including all new siding, doors, windows, and trim, all of which were in dire need of replacement.

While we negotiated the solar expansion to be financed through consumption rates, our barn restoration remains an expensive undertaking. Though we have had the help of some extremely generous volunteers, even outside of the main cost of labor, the cost of the remaining siding and trim alone will approach $10,000.

There are so many valuable causes that need all of our help right now - we highlight several that we support and encourage others to support on our website - but if you're in a position to give, we welcome any contributions toward this work:

https://www.thewatersedge.org/support

We endeavor to keep from passing these costs along in the costs of our products and services, and recurring or one-time contributions help achieve that goal. If you want to learn more about our restoration process, please reach out. Though more costly, we're committed to using materials and installation methods that reduce energy and resource consumption, and last longer than traditional solutions.

As always, thank you to everyone for your ongoing support, please reach out with any questions, and please feel free to share this message widely!

We recently had the opportunity to provide a testimonial (https://youtu.be/w4qSs5ReROA) for the Massachusetts Energy Efficiency Advisory Council (https://ma-eeac.org/), which focused on the extensive assessment and weatherization work we completed over the past few years as part of our efforts to increase the efficiency and decrease the energy use in our home, a historic converted carriage barn. While weatherization including insulation isn't always as exciting to share as our previous posts on our solar generation installations and our whole house geothermal heating and cooling system conversion, in many ways this work is as important and far less costly to implement, especially if one takes advantage of our state's great incentive programs to offset the cost. Please visit http://ngrid.com/victors-story to watch the testimonial and learn more about this important program today!

If you live in Sudbury and are interested in our composted manure to fertilize your plantings, please contact us to coordinate a delivery!

Now that the fall growing season is rapidly winding down, we will be fulfilling several orders in the next weeks while supply lasts. Our composted manure is unscreened and comprised mostly of horse droppings that have been allowed to decompose with other organic matter, and we never use any artificial chemicals, fertilizers, or insecticides on the property, rendering a rich, natural fertilizer perfect for gardens, plantings, yards, etc. that is best when turned over at approximately a 50/50 ratio with existing or delivered topsoil.

The composted manure is available for pick up at no cost or delivery at $80 for approximately one cubic yard of material. We can drop it at any location that can be accessed by truck or tractor with a 5-foot wide berth. Fall is as good a time as spring to feed your soil, as allowing the composted manure to mature in place over the winter further naturally breaks down the organic matter and supercharges the soil for the spring season.
