🐾 MEET SHAYNE! 🐾

Today's Vet Tech & Assistant Week spotlight is Shayne Schreifels, Veterinary Assistant! 🎉

While Shayne is new to veterinary medicine and has been with our team for about a month, her love for animals started on a Minnesota farm surrounded by horses, cattle, chickens, and plenty of hard work.

What she loves most about veterinary medicine? 📚 Learning something new every day from an amazing group of people.

A few things you should know about Shayne:

🐴 Favorite patients: Stocky horses with a few extra pounds
🩺 Often found observing equine surgery with Dr. Mez
🦥 Dream patient: A sloth
⚡ Fuel of choice: ALANI energy drinks
💬 Known for being chatty, friendly, and eager to learn

One of Shayne's favorite memories is spending a blizzard night blow-drying a newborn calf to keep it warm. That calf survived the storm and is now a healthy cow. ❤️

When she's not at work, you'll find her hiking, working out, traveling, studying, or spending time with her animal crew: six horses (including Lucky), Clyde the Yellow Lab, Roxo the cat, and plenty of farm animals back home. 🐴🐶🐱

❤️ "Your pet may only be part of your life, but you're their person for their entire life."

We're excited to be part of Shayne's veterinary journey and can't wait to see where it takes her. Thank you, Shayne! 🐾💙

🐾 Healthy Smiles, Healthy Pets! 🦷

Dental care is just as important for your pet as it is for you! At Sturgis Veterinary Hospital & Equine Center, we offer comprehensive oral health assessments and treatments designed to keep your pet comfortable, healthy, and smiling.

Our dental procedures include:
✅ Full dental radiographs (X-rays)
✅ Thorough scaling and polishing
✅ Complete oral health evaluation and treatment recommendations

Did you know?

🔹 60% of dental disease occurs below the gumline, where it can't be seen without dental X-rays.
🔹 The first sign of dental disease isn't heavy tartar buildup. It's often gingivitis, or inflammation of the gums.
🔹 80% of dogs and 70% of cats over the age of 3 are affected by periodontal disease.
🔹 Dental disease doesn't just impact the mouth. It can contribute to other health concerns, including heart and gastrointestinal disease.

Don't wait until bad breath or visible tartar becomes a problem. Regular dental care can improve your pet's comfort, health, and quality of life for years to come.

🐾 MEET AMBER! 🐾
It's Vet Tech & Assistant Week, and today we're shining the spotlight on Amber Wood, Veterinary Technician! 🎉
When asked what inspired her to work in veterinary medicine, Amber's answer was simple: ❤️"I love animals."
And that passion shows every day.

Amber enjoys many aspects of veterinary medicine, but if you hand her a puppy to pet, she's especially happy. She also enjoys surgery, emergency medicine, and caring for puppies and kittens. Whether she's helping with a routine appointment or assisting during a busy day, she's always ready to help wherever needed.

A few things you should know about Amber:

☕ Coffee? Yes.
⚡ Energy drinks? Also yes.

Outside of work, Amber enjoys spending time with her family and her grandbaby. ❤️ She also has quite the animal crew at home, including eight Dachshunds: Jersey, Hazel, Opal, Ripley, Rity, Sprocket, Diesel, and Rusty, plus a cat named Chester.

One memorable moment from her veterinary career involved a less-than-graceful encounter with a**l glands. Fortunately, luck was on her side that day. 😂
One thing Amber wishes every pet owner knew:
❤️"Many things look worse than they actually are."

Amber is one of those team members who stays calm, adapts to whatever the day throws at her, and helps keep things moving even when things get busy. We're grateful to have her on our team and appreciate everything she does for our patients, clients, and coworkers.
Thank you, Amber! 🐾💙

🐾 MEET MILLY! 🐾

It's Vet Tech & Assistant Week, so we're putting our team in the spotlight, and today's star is Amelia "Milly" Sander, Veterinary Assistant! 🎉

Talk about perfect timing! 🎉 Not only is it Veterinary Technician & Assistant Week, but today is also Milly's first official day on our team! If her enthusiasm, work ethic, and love for animals are any indication, we think she's going to fit right in. ❤️🐾

How long has Milly been interested in veterinary medicine?

Basically forever. 😂

She fell in love with veterinary medicine in kindergarten and started working in the field at just 12 years old, spending summers and weekends at Long Pines Vet.

Today, she still loves the animals, the people, the learning, and especially the rush of a busy veterinary day.

A few things you should know about Milly:

🐄 Large animals? YES.
🐶 Dogs? YES.
🐯 Work with a tiger for a day? ABSOLUTELY.
🐘 Elephant? Also yes.
☕ Coffee? Yes.
⚡ Energy drinks? Also yes.
🥨 Snacks? Obviously.
🪑 Sitting around with nothing to do? Absolutely not.

Milly describes herself as a busybody who is always looking for something to do. She's also someone who will listen, help, and support others whenever she can. ❤️

Her animal family includes 🐶 Cowboy and Willow, 🐱 Comet, 🐰 Opal and Yahoo, and 🐴 Bugs.

Cowboy, her Blue Heeler/Border Collie, is her self-proclaimed heart dog. ❤️

When asked what she wishes every pet owner knew, Milly shared:

"Take the time to build a relationship with your pets and appreciate the time you have with them. Someday, you'd give anything for one more walk or just five more minutes." 🥹❤️

And if there's one thing she wants clients to know:

"I want to help you in any way possible."

We're pretty lucky to have that kind of person on our team.

❤️ Help us welcome Milly to the Sturgis Veterinary Hospital & Equine Center family and celebrate Veterinary Technician & Assistant Week! ❤️🐾

🐾 TEAM SPOTLIGHT: TIFFANY ANDERSON, RVT 🐾

Today we're celebrating Tiffany, our Lead Registered Veterinary Technician and an incredible member of our team for the past 15 years! 🎉

Tiffany's love for veterinary medicine started with two simple passions: animals and medicine. She combined the two and has been making a difference ever since. ❤️

She loves the variety that comes with veterinary medicine, assisting our doctors with patient care, and even running lab work. And if you ask her what her dream patient would be? Her answer is simple: 🐱 All the kittens!

Outside of work, Tiffany stays busy keeping up with her kids' activities and caring for quite the animal crew at home, including Jasmin, Skeeter, Tom, Star, Stormy, Blackberry, and Yeti. 🐶🐱🐴

Her coworkers know her as someone who is always smiling and always willing to help, which makes her self-awarded superlative of "Most Helpful" pretty fitting. 🏆

One of Tiffany's favorite veterinary memories is teaching future veterinary technicians how to place IV catheters in horses and then watching them succeed on their own. ❤️

The advice Tiffany wishes every pet owner knew:

❤️ Learn to recognize signs of pain and discomfort in your pets. They often tell us they're hurting in ways that can be easy to miss.

Thank you, Tiffany, for 15 years of leadership, dedication, knowledge, and support. We're grateful to have you on our team! 🐾❤️

Help us celebrate Tiffany in the comments! 🎉
