CBowdens Valley Dog School

CBowdens Valley Dog School Carly has had a love for animals since she was a child and as she grew, so did her strong desire to work with dogs. Carly pushed to make her dream a reality.

With over 15 years of experience and 10 years serving the Shenandoah Valley, we help families build calm, confident, well-mannered dogs through our board and training programs and private lessons. Landing a job at a local Boarding / Training facility was just the beginning, she was able to apprentice under two very well known and established dog trainers and learn what was required to become an a

ccomplished trainer. With eight years of experience working with dogs she now undertands that, like humans, dogs have unique personalities and do not all respond to the same type of training enforcement, this realization has lead her to found CBowdens Valley Dog School, a school for training canines and their owners to use many different approaches to training. Her methods have been proven to work very effectively on problem dogs, especially. While two years as head trainer at a boarding/training facility was a start, she currently enrolled in an online class in hopes of getting a certificate and furthering her knowledge. She is also planning to enter her corgi in some classes in hopes of learning the sport, agility. She Looks foward to working with you and your furry four legged friend!

Maverick’s family is off enjoying a Morgan Wallen weekend, so this handsome chocolate boy is back with us for a little alumni boarding. 🎶

Hard to believe it’s been 8 years since he finished his program. We sure do love seeing our graduates again.

Little delay on this one, but Monday was go-home day for Lenny!

After 3 weeks with us, Lenny got to show his family everything he has been working so hard on. We spent time going over his obedience, how to communicate with him clearly, and most importantly, how to reinforce those skills once he is back home and settling into real life again.

During his program, Lenny worked on building better manners, impulse control, leash skills, recall, crate manners, place, down stays, and learning how to slow his busy little brain down so he can make better choices. For such a young guy, he made some really nice progress and we are so proud of how far he came during his stay.

Go-home lessons are such an important part of our board and train programs because the training does not stop when they leave us. The family learning how to follow through, create structure, and use the skills in daily life is what helps everything continue to come together at home.

We can’t wait to hear updates as Lenny settles back in with his family, and we’re excited that we’ll be seeing him again very shortly when he comes back next weekend for another visit to keep those skills sharp and continue building on everything he has learned.

Good job, Lenny!

This might look like a simple clip of Rebel practicing his heel, but there is a lot more happening here.

Rebel came into his program with a fear of large trucks. Prior to training, his family shared that after a few stressful encounters with large trucks, trailers, and air brakes while out and about, he became hesitant to even leave his own driveway.

In this clip, Carly’s husband was nearby unloading logs off the tri-axle. Rebel noticed it, and he was definitely curious, but what we are not seeing is just as important. He was not scrambling, trying to flee, shutting down, or giving us any major stress responses.

Instead, we used his obedience to help him work through it.

Heel gives him a clear job. It tells him where to be, what to do, and where to focus when something in the environment feels uncertain. This is not about forcing him to “get over it.” It is about giving him structure, guidance, and successful repetitions so he can build confidence around the things that worry him.

With trucks coming and going here regularly, Rebel will have plenty of safe opportunities to keep practicing and learn that big trucks are not something he needs to panic over.

Small moments like this are where real progress starts.

Have you been thinking about enrolling your dog in our Board & Train program?

Read all details below! 👇

We have one 3-week spot open immediately and are looking for a dog under 2 years old to begin. Dogs must be at least 5.5 months old to start.

This opening must begin Monday, June 8th at 10:00am, with a go-home appointment on June 29th.

Our 3-week Board & Train program focuses on basic obedience both on and off leash, practice out in public, and training for the family as well.

Commands covered include:

Sit, Down, Place, Wait at doors, Heeling, Leave It, Drop It, Off-Leash Come, and a Follow cue.
Stays are implied in all commands, meaning your dog is taught to hold the command until released.

This is an immersive program that allows your dog to stay with the trainer for the extent of the program and learn in an environment that encourages consistency and progress through every interaction.

Structure and safety are our top priorities. We incorporate play during training and utilize a balanced approach to teach impulse control, reliability, and clear communication.

This program includes 3 lessons for the family so you leave confident and understand how to reinforce your dog’s training at home and in everyday life. We also include lifetime support, because we want our families to feel supported long after the program is complete.

For this immediate opening, we are offering $200 off, making the total $2,700.00, due at drop-off.

Updates are available by request, and photos/videos will also be shared here on social media.

Message us here or head to our website to fill out our form and set up the appointment to begin.

We are excited to have you!

🚨 Please keep in mind that this spot is available on a first come, first served basis.

Everyone welcome Rebel! 🤎

Rebel is a 1 year old Chocolate Lab here for our 3 Week Board and Train program. He has had some previous training elsewhere and knows a few of our basics, so we’ve started getting to know him and implementing our foundations to make sure he’s ready for the next steps in his training.

Rebel needs help with impulse control, especially during greetings. He jumps, can paw for attention, get a little mouthy, pulls on his leash, and sometimes becomes overwhelmed by loud noises, especially larger trucks. While he’s here, we’ll be working on better choices, clearer communication, confidence, and more reliable obedience.

As with all of our Board and Train students, a big part of Rebel’s program will include working with his family so they leave feeling confident too. We’ll go over how to communicate with him, reinforce his commands, troubleshoot if problems come up, and talk through how these skills can best fit into their daily lifestyle at home and out in the real world.

Our goal is always to make sure the training carries over after the program is complete, and that each family feels supported as they continue building on their dog’s progress.

We’re excited to have this handsome boy here with us!

We are truly honored to have been voted Best Dog Obedience Training in Shenandoah County through the Northern Virginia Daily.

Thank you so much to every family who took the time to vote, share our name, recommend us, and trust us with your dogs over the years. This recognition means so much because it came from the community we are so grateful to be a part of.

CBowden’s Valley Dog School has always been built on relationships, trust, and a true love for helping dogs and their families live better together. Every dog who comes through our doors becomes part of our story, and I’m so thankful for the families who have supported this little dog school and allowed us to keep doing what we love.

From the bottom of my heart, thank you for believing in us, cheering us on, and choosing us.

We are honored, grateful, and so excited to continue serving the amazing families of Shenandoah County and beyond.

With so much gratitude,
Carly Bowden

Lenny took another field trip today, this time to Tractor Supply, to continue working on his manners in a public environment.

For such a young guy, he showed some really nice focus, leash manners, and impulse control around new sights, sounds, smells, people, and distractions. Field trips like this are an important part of helping our students learn that their obedience skills don’t just apply at home or here at school. They need to carry over into real-life environments too.

Lenny is growing in confidence, learning how to stay engaged with his handler, and practicing how to move through the world with better manners one outing at a time.

Great job, Lenny!

Help us wish Toby a very Happy Birthday! 🥳🐾

This handsome boy deserves a day full of treats, adventures, belly rubs, and all the love. We hope your birthday is as special as you are, Toby!

Alumni Ralph and Ducky are back with us for another little visit while their family enjoys some time away. They were just here with us last week, so these boys barely had time to miss us before jumping right back into our routine like they never left.

They were wonderful helpers during Toby’s private lesson today and showed off the same great listening skills and manners we love seeing from our graduates. It’s always such a joy having familiar faces back with us and getting to continue building on the structure they already know.

🚨Our summer schedule only has a few small openings left for Stay, Play & Train. If your dog has completed training with us and you’re looking for a familiar, safe, and structured place for them to stay while you’re away, reach out to get on our schedule.

We’re excited to see so many familiar faces this summer and would love for your pup to join them, too!
