Here are some important questions to ask before bringing your new best friend home:
🐾 1. Can I see pictures of the parents?
You should be able to see the mom and, when possible, the dad. This helps you get an idea of their appearance, size, structure, and overall condition.
🐾 2. What are the puppies exposed to?
Are they exposed to everyday household noises, different surfaces, children, other animals, and normal daily activities? Early experiences help puppies learn about the world around them.
🐾 3. What food are the puppies eating?
Ask what brand and type of food they are eating, how often they are fed, and whether they are already transitioning to solid food. This helps you continue their routine and avoid unnecessary tummy troubles.
🐾 4. How are the puppies handled day to day?
Are they handled regularly? Do they receive gentle, positive interaction? Are they getting individual attention and opportunities to explore safely? The little things breeders do every day can make a big difference!
🐾 5. What is the temperament of the puppies and their parents?
Ask about the parents’ personalities, energy levels, confidence, and behavior around people. Ask what each puppy is like individually, too! Every puppy is different, even within the same litter.
❤️ MOST IMPORTANTLY…
A responsible breeder should be willing to answer your questions respectfully, honestly, and without making you feel bad for asking. They should be happy to share information, photos, videos, and details about how their puppies are raised.
🚩 If a breeder gets defensive, refuses reasonable questions, or makes you feel like you’re being a problem for wanting to know about your puppy’s background, don’t ignore those feelings. You have every right to ask questions before making a commitment!
A puppy isn’t just a purchase. It’s a family member for years to come! 🐾❤️
Responsible breeding starts with transparency, care, and a genuine love for the dogs.
