Paradox Farm Sporthorses, LLC. FEI Eventing Farm in Stilwell, KS -
Offering Lessons, Training, Sales, Shows, Clinics & XC Schooling Back then, it was an empty 20 acre lot with a big dream!

Paradox Farm was first purchased in 1987, by a "pair of doc's," Dr. Gregory and Dr. Ginger Stiver when they were newly married. Since then, it has flourished to what it is now and is continuing to improve to this day. Mallory and Lauren Stiver have set out with a goal: to promote the American thoroughbred, and to bring high quality thoroughbreds to the midwest for second careers. They have developed an eye for the sporthorse type, and work with professional trainers to hone their riding abilities needed to retrain the OTTB. Through the years, they have built connections around various tracks with race horse trainers, owners, breeders and organizations all over the country to find suitable thoroughbreds for second careers. Here we give them their downtime and transition them effectively into their next job and work to find them a suitable new home. We are firm believers in not skipping any steps: focusing on everything from ground manners, to trailering and riding. Our goal is to send you a horse you can take anywhere and have people ask you where it came from! We also work with other breeds as well, however, we are huge advocates of the thoroughbred and want to do all we can to keep them out of slaughter. We have a variety of horses available and can help you find your own OTTB! We have a variety of horses available with various price ranges, so we can almost guarantee to have something you are looking for!

We are beyond proud of Nicole Jackson and Huey, who have been out and about killing it all summer long! 💙🥰 They moved up to training level in June and have since been busy “hitting the books.” From schooling show to schooling show, they are getting better and braver with each outting and looking like a seasoned pair! It’s shaping up to be an exciting fall show season for these two! 🫶🏼

As the saying goes: no foot, no horse.

We believe that strong athlete starts from a strong foundation.

Thank you to our amazing farrier Ben Goddard who not only goes above and beyond for our equines, but has also become a great friend to us! Some fun facts about Ben: he smokes a mean meat, he hand forges the most beautiful homemade hoof picks, and he is quick to crack the perfect smart ass remark. Being a farrier is a pretty thankless job - it’s back breaking work, and requires way more education than the average person realizes. Having a farrier who was a master carpenter is invaluable - Ben understands how one little imbalance shows up further down the line and he’s always checking twice before cutting away. He genuinely cares about the horses AND his quality of work - the fact that he’s just an awesome person is the cherry on top!

Happy National Farrier’s Week!

We want to give a special birthday shout out to our head groom (and general boss lady let’s be real here) Jordan Callender!!!

Anyone that knows Jordan knows how invaluable of a human being she is. It goes without saying that she absolutely changed horse showing for me when she started coming to events with us. I genuinely didn’t know what I was missing—I actually didn’t know you could have free time at a horse show before Jordan!!

BUT — her work ethic aside, who she IS as a person is why we love her so much. She is hard working - a commendable trait that so many brush off these days. She is empathic AND has discernment - she knows when it’s time to tell me to quit being a little baby and when it’s time to offer moral support. She is thoughtful - she’s already thought about the what if’s and accounted for them. She has initiative and is an excellent leader - Jordan never waits for anyone to tell her what needs to be done. She is quick witted with the type of dry sense of humor that makes you laugh and then go “wait a second….”

And at the end of the day, she’s just a good person. And that seems to be rarer and rarer these days.

They say you are the sum of those you spend time around, and I can say without a doubt - if I am just 10% the person that Jordan is, I will feel accomplished.

Please help us in wishing Jordan the most spectacular birthday ever! 💙🫶🏼🎂🎉

I cannot stress this enough to my students! Get off the rail and USE THE SPACE

On April 4th, I harrowed our arena; then I headed out for the day - when I arrived back in the evening it was obvious riders had been to farm, working horses and using the facilities. They were all gone, but as I walked by this ring I couldn’t help but beam and capture this photo.

This is an arena used by component, aware riders - do you see how the hoof prints are evenly dispersed? No hard packed ridge around the outer edge of the arena? No “circle of death” packed pathway at A? This arena had riders who were using the ENTIRE space, riding into their corners, serpentines, long diagonals, short diagonals, center line.

Everywhere they could have ridden they did. And it made me beam because while I don’t know WHO rode that day, I know each of them learned to ride like that; actively steering and balancing the horse, in our program.

Great riding, riders - What excellent students you are!

🌸 Spring Has Sprung 🌸
We kicked off the spring season with multiple XC schoolings and a quick trip to Texas Rose for their spring horse trial (though the 90° temps made it feel like summer. 🥵)

Nicole Jackson is continuing to gain valuable experience in the eventing world & made the trip to Texas for her first out of event, where she and Hugo Boss “Huey” cinched a top 3 finish in the senior novice, adding just one rail to their 31 dressage score! It was a massive improvement from their show debut together last fall, and an exciting glimpse for their future!

Ginger Stiver’s Hennessy Venom “Vinny” also went to Texas and had 3 knock the rust off phases in the open novice. We are still on the EPM recovery so my expectations are at zero, but it was nice to have the pressure off to let him jump around and feel his confidence re-grow throughout each phase.

Last weekend I took Nicole & Sam to Mission Valley Hunt Club’s annual hunter pace — I was bummed I couldn’t ride due to cyst on my tailbone. 🥲 Despite not being able to ride, it was a beautiful day hanging out with the hunt club and watch Nicole & Sam partake in the races (which they won!), not to mention a solid conditioning day for the thoroughbreds!

As we look toward a busy spring, I want to remind riders that our arena is open for haul in show jump practice ($35/horse) or you may schedule a lesson and waive the haul in fee! Additionally, our XC course should be open within the next 2 weeks weather permitted. Text 913-548-9632 to schedule a time!
