Future Veterinarians 🤝 Oklahoma State Veterinary Medicine

Preparing the next generation of veterinarians is at the heart of what we do at the CVM. Through ExpOSUre: Livestock Docs, students get the opportunity to explore veterinary medicine through hands-on experiences and learn what it takes to become a future veterinarian.

🏆 Congratulations to our very own Jessica Schultz and The Devils Reject on an incredible accomplishment!🏆

Jessica, our herd manager at the CVM Equine Research Park, and The Devils Reject are the 2026 USEF Western Dressage Seat Medal Final champions, the first national title winner in this new competition!

This win is even more special after The Devils Reject recently recovered from a snakebite. He was treated by Dr. Chase Whitfield, clinical associate professor of equine ambulatory medicine, and Dr. AJ Manship, clinical assistant professor of equine internal medicine. After receiving excellent care and making a full recovery, he’s back in the arena doing what he does best!

🕷️ A very unique patient stopped by the Teaching Hospital!🕷️

This spider was discovered outside the hospital and brought in for evaluation. Cases like this give our veterinary students valuable hands-on learning opportunities while helping protect the health and welfare of the unique species that share our environment.

After a quick check-up, our eight-legged patient was cleared for release and returned to where he belongs. 🕷️🌿

One of the things we love most about veterinary medicine is the opportunity to care for animals great and small. Whether they have fur, feathers, scales or eight legs, every life matters and deserves compassionate care. ❤️

🏆 on the National Stage🏆

Dr. Giovana D. Catandi, assistant professor of theriogenology, was recently an invited speaker at the Theriogenology Conference in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, where she delivered two presentations. She also received a grant from the Theriogenology Foundation earlier this month.

Congratulations to Dr. Catandi on these exciting accomplishments! 🎉

Meet Prince! 👏

This 7-month old Akaushi bull calf sustained a deep laceration to his right hind limb, just below his dew claws, during the flooding that took place in Northeast Oklahoma earlier this summer. Concern for possible soft tissue and joint involvement led to his referral to the veterinary medical teaching hospital.

Dr. Kennedy and her team evaluated Prince, performed radiographs, and assessed that the joints did not appear to be involved. Because of the significant degree of cellulitis, the team elected to provide supportive care to avoid introducing bacteria into the joint.

With daily care and plenty of support, Prince continued to improve and was discharged back to his herd. We're happy to report that he has been doing well since his return home. 🏠
