Let me share a product that we will not be without in the barn from now on.
Last year before convention I was looking on Facebook and saw a friend and long time livestock champion bragging about a product that changed how they brought in sheep. He talked about how it stopped worms, scours, and even cut down on the stress of the gut through feed and water changes.
The biggest issue when stressing livestock is Cocci and in the rabbit world we know this is a crazy bug; however, what some do not realize is that it comes with a partner clostridium! If you have paid any attention to Facebook you have seen people talking about kit loss and even doe loss due to scours and bloat. Well guess what???
This stuff stops it!
After visiting with Clay we decided that it certainly was worth running a few test in our barn. So we ordered a bottle and when we had a litter start to bloat we mixed it just as the instructions said, 3CC to a gallon of water and filled the bowl. The kits came to it and started drinking which is a key to overcoming bloat issues. Very much to my surprise when we went out the next morning the bowl was empty and the kits were alive. We filled up the bowl again and when we checked them that night they were on the feeder.
Being the skeptic I am there was no way this stuff was that good. Since September we have used it in our barn against Corid and Toltrazuril to compare how it impacted our herd. This stuff is standing strong and in my opinion better than these since it is just mixed in the water and shows a faster return to feed.
Let me make this very clear. WE ARE NOT SALESMAN OR SPONSORED. We simply found something that works and wanted to share.
I called and spoke to Marc to better understand how this stuff works and below is a quick elevator summary of the technical stuff:
Purge is a proprietary blend of essential oils. amino acids and sucrose octanoate esters. It is scientifically proven safe and effective against protozoans; such as coccidia, bacteria; such as clostridium, staphylococcus, and enterococcus. It works by alternate modes of action by both disrupting cell membranes and interrupting metabolism. Purge is also convenient to use as it can be added to water at 3-5ml/gallon of water or drenched at 1ml/10 # of body weight and is an all natural product that requires no meat or milk withdrawal.
They have tested in all species and have reports of test and trials that back up what and how it worksโฆ. What matters to me is that it has saved kits in my barn!
Right now I see tons of post about scours bloat and death, from show rabbits to back yard homesteads people are loosing stock. This product is worth a shot!
