Please join us in welcoming our new veterinary intern, Dr. Alex Lytasz.
Dr. Alex Lytasz grew up just outside Toronto, Ontario, and began riding at the age of 8. Living close to Woodbine Racetrack, she attended her first horse race at the age of 10 and instantly fell in love. She began working in the thoroughbred industry at 15, and continued throughout school, while also branching and gaining experience across other equine disciplines. This deep immersion in the equine industry inspired her to pursue veterinary medicine, so she could continue working with these incredible equine athletes and supporting the dedicated horse people who care for them.
Dr. Lytasz earned her Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Science from the University of Guelph in 2018, during which she volunteered with the Future Vets Club foal watch team and participated in veterinary outreach trips. She went on to earn her DVM from the Ontario Veterinary College in 2026 and is thrilled to begin her career at Hess Equine.
Dr. Lytasz is passionate about all aspects of equine ambulatory medicine, with particular interests in sports medicine, emergency and critical care, foal work and internal medicine. She looks forward to building relationships within the local horse community, continuing her work within the racing industry, and growing her skills as a clinician.
She currently lives in Fallston, Maryland with her cat, Cali. In her spare time she enjoys scuba diving, traveling, outreach work, horseback riding, and staying active outdoors.
