Sometimes the biggest wins don’t happen in the show pen. This mare has never been one to enjoy having her face touched. She’s pretty particular about who she trusts and how close she lets you get.

But this little girl has spent all summer putting in the work. Showing up, learning, being patient, and getting this mare ready to show. And then there was this moment.

She wrapped her arms around her, and instead of pulling away, this mare dropped her head and completely melted into the hug.

You can’t force that kind of trust. You earn it. These are the moments I love most about teaching kids and horses. The ribbons are fun, but watching a partnership like this grow right in front of you means a whole lot more.

I had such a great time competing in the Gettin’ Ranchy Show Series this year. Looking back on the whole series, one of the biggest things I’m taking away from it is just how much growth happened for both my horse and myself along the way.

There were definitely highs and lows. Some rides felt like everything was coming together, and others showed me exactly where we still had work to do. But every show gave us something to learn from, and I could really see the progress we were making as a team from one show to the next.

We ended the final show on a high note, placing 3rd in Conformation, Rule Breaker Freestyle Reining, and Trail. After all the points were totaled for the entire series, we finished 4th overall in the Open Division.

I’m especially proud of that because showing in the Open Division pushed me outside of my comfort zone and challenged me to keep improving. This series taught me a lot about my horse, myself as a rider and trainer, and the importance of continuing to show up even when things don’t go exactly how you hoped.

There is always more to work on, but looking back at where we started and where we finished, I’m really proud of the progress we made together.

Thank you to everyone who worked so hard to put on the Gettin’ Ranchy Show Series and made it such a fun place to compete, learn, and grow. I’m grateful for the experience and already looking forward to the next one.

This is why we do what we do. The smile on a rider’s face when they’re truly enjoying their equine partner, that right there is what it’s all about.

It’s not just about learning how to ride. It’s about building confidence, trust, and a connection that you can feel. These moments, the laughs, the little wins, the way a horse can bring out the best in someone, those are the things that stick.

Watching these kids light up in the saddle reminds me why I started in the first place. Horses have a way of teaching more than just riding, they teach patience, responsibility, and heart.

This is where confidence grows. This is where passion starts.
