Today is Dr. Malinda Blazek's last day of her Internship here at Signature Equine Hospital! We have loved having Dr. Malinda here on the team, so we decided she should stay for a little longer! After a well-deserved break, Dr. Malinda will return as an Associate Veterinarian in July!

Dr. Felipe and the SEH Team got to work early the other morning on this surgery! This horse was seen at a different clinic where X-Rays were taken and upon finding the fracture, they put a beautiful cast on his leg for support on his journey to us.

We are lucky enough to have the CT Machine here at the clinc to use in conjuntion with X-Ray Imaging to help us get this horse on the road to recovery! While the surgery itself may be a long one, it was succesful and we are excited to get this horse on the road to recovery!

Cellulitis is a disseminated infection that affects the tissues under the skin, typically observed in the hind limbs. In most cases it is a rapidly onsetting infection that can cause severe lameness, and if left untreated can lead to sepsis.

Pathogenic bacteria usually make their way into the limb through small cuts or abrasions, and symptoms like swelling, pitting, fever, and lethargy quickly follow. Treatment of Cellulitis should be guided by a Veterinarian, and consists of broad-spectrum antibiotics, sweating the limb and cold hose therapy.
