🌞 Closed for Labor Day!

We’re taking a little time to soak up the last long weekend of summer with our own pups!

Augusta K9 Center will be closed Monday, September 7th for Labor Day. We hope you and your four-legged family members enjoy the long weekend—whether that means a backyard nap, a sunny adventure, or simply extra time together.

We’ll see you back at the Center on Tuesday!

🐾September is Animal Pain Awareness Month. 🐾

Pets can be incredibly good at hiding pain, which means discomfort may show up as small changes rather than an obvious “ouch.”

Keep an eye out for things like slowing down on walks, stiffness, difficulty jumping or climbing stairs, sleeping more, changes in appetite, or shifts in mood and behavior.

Knowing what’s normal for your pet makes it easier to notice when something has changed. ❤️

🐾 DOG OF THE WEEK: ARAVIS 🐾

Meet Aravis, our brave 9-year-old Toy Poodle who brings plenty of paws, poise, & progress to every rehab session! 💕

Her name, Aravis, means “brave” and “noble,” and she certainly lives up to it. From trying new exercises to tackling each challenge with confidence, this little girl shows just how much courage can come in a tiny package. 🐩✨

We’re so proud of Aravis and all the progress she’s making!

Balance exercises are about so much more than staying upright. They challenge dogs to use their muscles, improve body awareness, develop coordination, and better control their movements.

From post-surgical recovery to supporting senior dogs, balance work can be an important part of a well-rounded rehabilitation program. 🐾

What looks like a simple exercise can be doing a lot of work behind the scenes!

🐾 TEAM SPOTLIGHT: Samantha 🐾

Help us give a warm shout out to one of the friendly faces keeping tails wagging at Augusta K9 Center—Sam!

Sam serves as one of our dedicated Rehabilitation Assistants and is currently expanding her skillset by training to step into the role of Canine Hydrotherapy Coach!

Sam brings a strong, diverse background in animal care, having studied Veterinary Science at Massanutten Technical Center alongside clinical shadowing experience assisting with exams and patient care. Her passion for animal health extends well beyond small animals, with extensive hands-on experience caring for horses at Cross Keys Equine Therapy and Liberty University Equestrian Center. With leadership training from the LEAD/MIT program under her belt, she is always eager to learn, grow, and provide top-notch care to every patient who walks through our doors.

What is Sam's favorite part of the job?

"My favorite part about this job is all the tail wagging!! It’s beautiful to see all the dogs happy to be here!!"

And when she’s not at Augusta K9 Center, Sam loves making the most of her time with the people and pup she loves most:

"In my free time, I love spending quality time with my boyfriend, friends, and family. I'm always up for a fun adventure with my dog or a moment of stillness with Jesus."

Whether she is supporting our therapists during rehab sessions or preparing to make a splash coaching in the pool, Sam’s dedication to pet recovery shines through every single day. 💙

Bulldog determination: ACTIVATED!💪

Kizzie Joe is recovering from a TPLO and showing up to rehab ready to work! Between underwater treadmill sessions, therapeutic exercises, and time on the PEMF mat, she’s building strength and getting closer to doing all her favorite things again, like doing figure 8's in the yard with her sister.

That signature bulldog determination might just be her secret weapon to a speedy recovery.

We’re rooting for you, Kizzie Joe!
