Obituary For Dean Gares
In Loving Memory of Dean
May 16, 2014 – October 8 2026
Today, we say goodbye to a very special boy, Dean — our beloved Old Man, our Prince, an ABKC Champion, and so much more than words could ever fully explain.
Dean came into my life when he was just four months old, and from that moment on, he became my ride or die for years. He wasn't just my dog; he was my constant companion, my adventure buddy, and a piece of my heart that walked around outside my body. He rode everywhere with me, traveled all over by my side, and turned ordinary days into memories I will carry with me forever.
Dean lived a life full of adventure. He absolutely loved the beach, and he loved snorkeling in the river like a little alligator. The water was one of his happy places, and getting to share those adventures with him was a gift I'll always treasure. Wherever life took me, Dean was right there beside me. We traveled through life together, and I wouldn't trade those years for anything.
Dean leaves behind his daughter, Jo, his four human siblings, and the people who loved him as family. He was an ABKC Champion, a title he earned with pride, but his greatest legacy will never be a trophy. It will be the years he spent by my side, the places we went, the memories we made, and the love he gave so freely simply by being Dean.
Twelve years was never going to be enough. No amount of time ever could be when a soul becomes so woven into your everyday life. Saying goodbye hurts in a way that only those who have loved an animal as family can understand. The world may see a dog, but I know what I lost. I lost my Old Man. My Prince. My ride or die.
Dean passed at home, surrounded by love and his family. He was where he belonged, with the familiar presence of those who loved him.
“One day, they'll say he was just a dog. But they'll never know the miles we traveled, the memories we made, or the love that changed my life forever. He was never just a dog. He was my family, my best friend, and my home.”
Run free, Old Man. Find all the beautiful beaches and rivers waiting for you. Until we meet again, my Prince, thank you for every mile, every adventure, and every year you gave me.
You were loved beyond measure, Dean. You always will be. ❤️
