He was kicked out of a well known training facility on Staten Island and labeled “out of control.”

Now look at him.

Walking through busy public areas, calmly entering stores, holding stays in different environments, and learning how to exist around the world with confidence and clarity.

He was never “out of control.” He needed structure, consistency, guidance, and someone willing to actually work with the dog in front of them.

A dog being difficult does not mean they are incapable. It means they need a plan that fits them.

This is what happens when you give dogs the chance they deserve!

“Can you train my dog to be a service dog so I can take them on an airplane?”

A service dog is not a travel pass for your pet. Service dogs are highly trained to perform specific tasks that mitigate a person’s disability. They aren’t pets with a vest, and they aren’t emotional support animals.

Fake service dogs create real problems:
🐾 They can distract legitimate service dogs from performing critical tasks.
🐾 They can put handlers at risk if their dog misses an alert or task.
🐾 They often have poor public manners, which gives all service dog teams a bad reputation.
🐾 They make businesses and the public more skeptical of legitimate service dog handlers.

If your goal is simply to travel with your dog, a service dog is not the answer.

Let’s leave service dogs for the people who truly need them.

The By My Side K9 Training family is growing! 🐾❤️

This December, we’ll be welcoming our newest team member. Don’t worry the dogs will still be training, classes will still be run, and Wrangler and Rogue are already preparing for their newest responsibility.

We are so excited to share this journey with all of you and appreciate the support you’ve given us through the years.
Our baby is arriving December 2026. 👶✨

BunBun and Wrangler just hanging out at the park… but for BunBun, this was HUGE. 👏🐾

BunBun is used to going to parks to play with dogs, so learning that he can coexist calmly around another dog without needing to interact was a big challenge for him. Instead of play, we focused on neutrality, engagement, and learning how to simply exist together peacefully.

And honestly? This is one of the most underrated skills a dog can have. Not every dog needs to be best friends sometimes the goal is just calm, respectful coexistence.

So proud of BunBun for working through those impulses and making such awesome progress with Wrangler at the park!

Scent work is one of the best forms of enrichment you can give a dog because it taps directly into how dogs naturally experience the world. Their noses are incredibly powerful sniffing is mentally exhausting in the best way possible and can help dogs feel more fulfilled, calm, and confident.

In this heat practicing scent work is great because it creates a healthy fatigue! Dogs often settle better after scent work because their brain is satisfied, not just their body being exercised. So you won’t have to worry about taking your dog on a long walk to get them

And YES! Scent work is great for almost every dog, any breed, age, size, or training level can do it. You don’t need fancy equipment to start either.

Finally getting around to teaching Rogue an “Around” (walk around me) and we’re getting better at our weaves and heel positioning!
One thing he’s obsessed with and never messes up is circling the cone 🤣
