๐Ÿพ Why Brushing Your Long-Haired Dog Matters! ๐Ÿพ
Regular brushing isnโ€™t just about keeping your pup looking fluffy and beautiful โ€” itโ€™s an
important part of their overall grooming care!
Long-haired dogs, especially poodle mixes and other curly-coated breeds, can mat much more
easily than you might realize. Mats can form close to the skin and become tight, uncomfortable,
and even painful if theyโ€™re left unattended. Mats can hold in water, urine, saliva, or other
moisture, creating an environment where bacteria and yeast can multiply and could ultimately
lead to hot-spots or bacterial infections.
โœจ Regular brushing helps:
โ€ข Prevent painful matting and tangles
โ€ข Keep the coat clean, healthy, and manageable
โ€ข Allow you to notice skin issues, bumps, or irritations sooner
โ€ข Make professional grooming appointments easier and more comfortable
But thereโ€™s another HUGE reason to brush your dog regularly: desensitization! ๐Ÿถ
When brushing, handling paws, touching ears, and working through the coat are part of your
dogโ€™s normal routine, theyโ€™re more likely to feel comfortable with grooming. This can make bath
time, brushing, nail trims, and haircuts much less stressful for everyone.
For poodle mixes in particular, waiting until the coat is severely tangled can make grooming a
much more difficult experience. Consistent maintenance at home + regular professional
grooming = a happier, healthier, more comfortable pup.
Remember: brushing should be a positive experience. Use treats, patience, and plenty of
praise, and never force your dog through a painful mat.

This Thursday, August 20, PAWS is hosting a walk-in and low-cost vaccine and microchip clinic from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at our shelter.

Today was clean up day for these 3 sweeties as they embark on their new lives. Recent additions at Pets Come First and soon to be ready for their forever homes for this mama and her 2 babies. From drab to fab for my man Ozzy! I honestly donโ€™t know how this boy is still waiting for his forever home. He did amazing for grooming, was good in a crate, gave plenty of kisses, walked well on a leash, and loved the car ride. Pets Come First

Say Hello to Ozzy!

Ozzy is a 1 year old, Alaskan Husky mix. He should be able to live with cats and is selective with his dog friends. He can be quite mouthy at times so older kids may be best. He is very high energy as huskies are and will need a family that is either very active or has a fenced in yard. He may have some separation anxiety as he's been through a lot in his short life. His long hair will require brushing quite often so please keep that in mind. He's very sweet and loves to be with people.
