Tonight's story is about Fergus, a very special boy whose life has been full of second chances, and one unexpected love story. ❤️
In May 2022, a Good Samaritan reported an injured puppy in distress. Then-ACO Taylor (now our Assistant Shelter Manager) found Fergus with wire tightly wrapped around his body. His injuries were devastating. Thanks to Dr. Shealy and Mississippi State University College of Veterinary Medicine, he underwent lifesaving reconstructive surgery and began the long road to recovery.
Meanwhile, Katie spotted his sweet face on the OCHS website. "I knew I had to go get him!" When she heard his medical history, everyone seemed worried she'd change her mind. But it was the opposite. She wanted him even MORE and Fergus had his forever home! But life had another challenge waiting. While Katie was walking him on a leash, an unleashed dog attacked him, injuring Fergus and Katie. (Special shoutout to The Dawg House Playground & Salon for helping Fergus after this attack!)

Here's where things take a wonderful turn. ACO Taylor contacted Katie to follow up on the attack. That led to a friendship. And that led to something more…AND THAT SOMETHING MORE LED TO A WEDDING!💍❤️ That's right! Fergus helped bring his two moms together! 🥹
Today, Fergus enjoys living-room playdates, letting foster puppies tug on his tail, chewing on balls (not catching them!), rope swings, and sitting in the yard like an old man surveying his property. His favorite snacks? Green beans and salt & vinegar chips. 😂
And his favorite person? Taylor. Not Katie. TAYLOR. 😑😂
Katie calls Fergus her soul dog and it's easy to understand why after all they've been through together. "I can't imagine what my life would be like if I hadn't checked the website that day," Katie says.
And that's the magic of rescue. Sometimes you think you're just adopting a dog, but you have no idea how much that one decision might change your life.
