🐾 Happy Tails Thursday! 🐾
Tonight's happy ending belongs to a tiny kitten who fought hard for her second chance. In early November 2025, an 8-week-old tortie kitten was brought to the shelter after being found wandering around an apartment complex. We named her Ember.
At first, Ember seemed to be doing okay, but it quickly became clear that something was wrong. She stopped eating and drinking and lost nearly 30% of her body weight. We quickly found a foster and against all odds, Ember slowly began to recover. After two months in a loving foster home, she was finally healthy, happy, and ready to find her forever family.
That's when Tracey found her. After seeing a post about Ember, Tracey submitted an application and reached out for more information. The connection was instant, and the rest is history. ❤️
While Tracey decided to keep Ember's name, she gave it a little extra flair—Ember Louise, or "Emmie" for short. Today, Emmie is a playful, energetic ball of sass who has completely come out of her shell. Once shy and timid, she has blossomed into what Tracey lovingly describes as a "spicy nice" beauty. She loves treats, showing off her high-five skills for dad, and lurking around the bathtub so she can splash and play in the water. 😸💦 Even sweeter, Emmie's family is currently fostering another OCHS kitten, and Emmie has embraced her role as big sister and playmate to the tiny newcomer.
Tracey says she is incredibly grateful for the OCHS staff, volunteers, and foster family who invested so much time, care, and love into helping Emmie become the happy, healthy cat she is today.
Stories like Emmie's remind us that sometimes the tiniest patients need the biggest village—and that every effort is worth it when we get to see them thriving in a home of their own. 🧡
