It’s been a busy week around the kennel, and we’ve got a full house!

This is Willow, and she’s wrapping up her final week in our Advanced Obedience Program. She has progressed really well, and we’re excited to see what she can do when she gets back home with her family.

Moody will also be wrapping up her Basic Obedience Program this week, and we have two new Advanced Obedience dogs coming in. I’m looking forward to showing y’all what these two can do over the next week or so—you’ll see why!

We also have three pointers in their programs right now, and two of them should be wrapping up within the next couple of weeks. We’ve got a new dog in from New York who started her place work this week, along with two retrievers.

On top of all that, I’m starting to get my own dogs back into shape and preparing them for the season. October 1st will be here before we know it!

It’s a busy time of year, but this is exactly what we love doing. We’re excited about the dogs we have here and even more excited to see them go home and put everything they’ve learned to work with their families.

The dog we affectionately call Juggernaut managed to squeeze out a limit this morning before the heat really kicked in.

It’s always fun getting pictures and checking in with clients, especially when you get to see these dogs doing what they were bred and trained to do. Proud of Juggernaut and thankful for great clients who keep us updated!

Good afternoon, everyone! Tomorrow is opening day of dove season down here in the South, and I don’t know about y’all, but I’m pretty excited to finally get back in the field. There’s just something about opening day that gets me fired up for the season ahead.

There are several pointers in this video, and I’m looking forward to getting these dogs back to doing what they love. Watching them work and getting to spend time in the field is something I’ve been looking forward to for a while.

The biggest thing I want to remind everyone, though, is to be mindful of this heat. It’s going to be hot, so please keep a close eye on your dogs. Make sure they have plenty of water and do everything you can to keep them cool. Don’t push them too hard—there will be plenty more days in the field.

Good luck to everybody tomorrow. Be safe, enjoy the time with your dogs, and make some memories.

Less than 30 days until opening day at Prairie Wildlife!

I don’t know about y’all, but I’m getting more excited by the day. There’s just something special about this time of year. All the work, training, and preparation leading up to opening day finally starts to come together.

I’m really looking forward to getting back in the field, watching these dogs do what they were bred and trained to do, and sharing another season with some great people. I’m also excited to meet a lot of new folks and make some memories along the way.

Before you head to the field this weekend, don’t forget to update your electronics!

I didn’t know if everyone was aware, but Garmin Express has had updates over the past several months.

One important thing to remember: Garmin TT15 and TT15X collars do not update wirelessly along with the Garmin 550 Pro Plus handheld. You’ll need to connect your collars separately through Garmin Express to make sure they are up to date.

Take a few minutes before heading out and check all your equipment. The last thing you want is to have issues once you’re already in the field.

Got to love a Saturday spent shooting s***t with your son, especially when he graduates from the .410 to a 20 gauge.

The only problem is that he really likes my Browning Citori. And being the only left-handed one in the family, I guess I don’t have much of a choice.

Looks like I’ll be making a trip to Gary’s before too long to find myself a replacement gun. If he wants the Citori, I guess it’s his.

Making memories one shot at a time. Let them shoot!!

These two GSPs are Judge and Charlie. Charlie is a rescue, and she is Judge new sister.

One of the best ways to get two dogs to bond is to let them work together—putting in some miles, getting a little sweat equity, and sharing the experience in the field.

A little work, a little fun, and a lot of teamwork. That’s how you build a good hunting partnership!

The Right Way to Put on a Slip Lead

Do you know the correct way to put on a slip lead or collar?

Just remember: the dead link should always be on the bottom and on the side of the dog you’re walking on. It’s a simple detail, but it makes a big difference when using a slip lead correctly.

Meet May!

May is our newest English Cocker Spaniel, and she’ll be joining me in the field as another flusher on my guide string this year. We’re excited to see what she can do in the field!

We’re also looking ahead to hopefully having some puppies from May later this year. We’re planning to breed her with Bear, the puppy we kept from our last litter, who is now almost 9 months old.

Stay tuned! I think this is going to be an awesome pairing, and we’re excited to see what these two produce.
