If you have been to the clinic lately, you may have noticed a fresh new face. We are so pleased to welcome Kayla to our team as our newest veterinary assistant!

From South Dakota, Kayla is a newcomer to the Sandhills area. Kayla's passion for horses pushed her to make the move to Stapleton to work with us.

She attended Colby Community College to achieve an Associates of Applied Science in Horse Production and Management and has a special interest in equine reproduction and performance recovery.

In her free time, Kayla has a deep passion for the sport of rodeo. She is working towards filling her PRCA timers internship, and enjoys giving riding lessons.

She has two horses, Andrew and Delbert. Andrew is her breakaway roping horse and Delbert was her rodeo queen horse. Besides having a big heart for horses she loves basset hounds and has a special appreciation for local cattle producers.

Kayla feels excited and blessed to be a part of the Sandhills Equine team.

We are lucky to have her, and look forward to everyone meeting her!

We are growing and looking to add to our team!

Sandhills Equine is a fun, caring place to work that emphasizes family, flexibility, and quality care.
If you love horses and the people that care for them, please check us out!

The LVT position is full time (M-F) and requires licensing or license-eligibility in Nebraska.

The barn crew position is part time- evenings and weekends. This position entails feeding/watering/medicating inpatients and cleaning barn/stalls/treatment room. The hours of this position are very flexible and weekends are only required if we have in-patients. Perfect for a high school student or an adult looking for a side hustle.

Please call us with any questions! We look forward to meeting you!

The clinic schedule is nearly fully booked, but we are available for breeding mares and horse emergencies until Dr. Morgan’s baby arrives (Due June 7th). We’ll be closed for appointments for 6 weeks after delivery. We will be returning calls and refilling medications 1–2 times per week during that period. I look forward to coming back without the extra cargo! Thank you for your patience during this time!

When is the last time your horse had a sedated oral exam?
We recommend annual exams for ALL horses, young and old. Horses with known pathology, such as missing teeth, are recommended to get the sedated oral exam twice per year.
Horses are living longer than ever, and maintaining their teeth is an important part of maintaining their quality of life.
Not sure if your horse needs it? Schedule the exam, and we can look and see. I bet it will surprise you!

West Nile virus (WNV) poses a serious threat to horses and humans alike. While many horses exposed to WNV experience no signs of illness, the virus can cause inflammation of the brain and spinal cord. In some cases, especially in older horses, WNV can be fatal. As a horse owner, prevention is the key to reducing your horse’s risk of contracting WNV. Follow these guidelines from the AAEP to protect your horse against WNV.
