A New Endeavor
FUZZY BRITCHES FIBER·SATURDAY, MAY 11, 2019·

Fuzzy Britches Fiber is a small hobby farm located in Stanwood Washington. As a spinner, I was intrigued by the notion of raising my own fiber. We currently raise Blue Faced Leicester and Tunis Sheep along with Angora Rabbits. We strive to raise our animals on a small scale in a healthy setting. All of our animals are humanely raised,

and are first and foremost pets. They are lovingly cared for, and in return supply our small farm with fiber for spinning, compost for the garden, and hours of enjoyment. We work hard to advocate for these amazing animals, and all of the resources they can provide. Our dream is to build a viable fiber business using locally sourced wool, while providing a loving and forever home to the animals who have provided us with so much!

Closing out Heritage Breeds Week by shining a spotlight on our beautiful Tunis sheep!
As a shepherdess, I fell in love with these sheep, but as a spinner, I fell for their fiber. Tunis wool falls perfectly into the medium-fine range (24-30 microns), offering a fantastic balance of comfort and structure.
What makes it so great to spin?
The wool has a solid crimp that makes the fiber “grippy” and easy to draft, making it an excellent project for both novice and experienced spinners. The end result is a beautifully strong, lofty yarn with gorgeous natural shades of cream and white that are perfect for next-to-skin wear.
Have you ever worked with Tunis?

The difference one month makes…it’s always fun to watch the different color patterns develop.

Who says snowmen only belong in December? Looking ahead to some winter projects, which means this charming guy is making his debut in May! There is room for improvement and I need to tweak a few of his accessories but he is too adorable not to share.
