✨Bearded silkies
✨American bresse

I have TONS of silkie & bresse chicks available.

My bresse layers are by far my most consistent egg laying breed - they are a dual purpose breed so if you get too many roosters you can always put a couple in your freezer!

Message me for details! 🫶🏼

Now that it’s getting so hot outside, I’ve officially switched to cold brew coffee at home, and I don’t think I can go back to hot coffee until it gets cold again. ☀️🧊☕

Not only is it ridiculously easy to make, but I honestly think it tastes so much better. It’s smooth, not bitter, and I don’t find myself needing nearly as much sugar. With hot coffee, I usually have to be pretty generous with the sugar to enjoy it. With cold brew, I just add a little of my HOME MADE chocolate syrup (which already has sugar in it) and that’s enough for me.

My simple cold brew recipe:

✨ 1/4 cup coffee grounds per 1 cup water

Mix it together and let it sit on the counter for 20–24 hours. Then strain out the grounds.

The cold brew is a concentrate, so when I’m ready to drink it, I do about 50% cold brew and 50% milk. You could also use water instead if you don’t want milk.

My favorite flavor combo is a little home made chocolate syrup and a splash of peppermint extract for a homemade mint mocha. 😍

Easy, cheaper than coffee shop drinks, and perfect for these hot summer days!

I wish I had cat like reflexes 🤣

I went to take a picture of the kitten on top of the hay bale and in a split second he jumped down and I caught a photo of him in the middle of his jump.

As a farmer… this morning sucked. 🥲

A cow was out. We still have a few Highlands here at home waiting to calve, along with our beef steers that we’re finishing out. Thankfully my husband dealt with getting the cow back where she belonged, but I still felt bad because it cut into his already busy workday. Then that same cow ended up in with the steers, so I couldn’t grain them until I got her moved back to the proper pasture.

Next, I went to feed the pigs and found a cow in their area too, so I had to get her out before I could grain them. While I was there, I realized three of Spotted Mom’s piglets were gone.

Then I went to take care of the meat birds and discovered a predator had gotten into the chicken tractors. It killed several birds without even eating them. The loss itself is hard enough, but when lives are taken and wasted like that, it really hurts. It also leaves me feeling guilty, wondering if I could have done more to protect them.

What makes it even more frustrating is that we have Izzy, our Great Pyrenees, out there to help protect them at night, and somehow a predator still managed to get in.

We started this batch with 100 meat chicks, and after today’s losses we’re down to just 64. That’s a tough pill to swallow especially with the price of chicks and feed (they’re 5 weeks old).

After that, I took care of my laying hens and found that my favorite silkie had passed away. She was very clearly egg-bound.

Some days farming is incredibly rewarding, and other days it feels like everything goes wrong before lunchtime. Today was one of those days.

Just a really tough day to be a farmer, I guess.
