Just A Lark Farm

Just A Lark Farm Hobby farm Just a Lark farm "homebred" foals will have names that are literary characters with birds in their names.

We try to find names whose characteristics are similar to the literary character. For example, Arya Stark is a spunky tomboy in the books "Game of Thrones" and Arya the foal was spunky and fearless within hours of her birth.

Arya update: Arya’s been at her new home for 6 months. Match made in heaven! Her new owner called me and said that she was coming back to the horse park to school as there was a stall available. She’s lost her post partumn figure and is having a blast in the jumper world. She seems to love her new bougie life in Chicago and is thriving! 🥰🥰🥰

Update: Arya found her new person! Thanks everyone!

I have decided that Arya needs her own person that isn’t me. She was supposed to be my dressage and endurance horse but fate had other plans. (She only tolerates dressage and I’m to busy to haul her to acceptable endurance trails for conditioning). She thrived as a broodmare but also LOVES jumping (I’m 🐓 💩)The run down:

2012 AngloArab mare sired by KB Omega Fahim a multiple national champion Grand Prix dressage Arabian.

Oldenburg NA main mare book approved.

She is 15.3+. Barefoot. Very easy keeper.
One foal. Took AI the first time. Fantastic momma.

Pros: You will never get sweaty riding her. She needs no leg. She is self propelled without getting jiggy. She goes in a nathe snaffle. Her lateral movements are great and she is adjustable to fences. She is very flexible in the body.

Cons: She’s miss independent and doesn’t like dressage or consistent contact. She will toss her head a little and tense in her body. She prefers to be point and shoot at jumps or traveling around on a loose rein.

Pros: She is super brave over fences and when she evented galloped over all various terrain she didn’t look twice at anything.

Cons: She hasn’t been trail ridden much. I would field hack her but she’s only done one “real” trail ride that was single track in the woods (she was fine).

Pros: She is really pretty and fine with chickens.

Cons: She HATES goats. Will kick them if they get to close. Was turned out with goats for 18 months and still hates them.

Pros: If you point her at a jump she will go over anything. Doesn’t buck after no matter how proud of herself she is.

Cons: She may spook at the same flower boxes propped up in the corner of the arena. Her spooks are forward, no spin, you will still be traveling forward just on a track 2ft to the inside. I find them easy to sit but you need to have a sense of humor.

Pros: She is an easy breeder and good momma.

Cons: She is a mare. Literally “her milkshake brings all the boys to the yard”. A stud 1/4 mile away would run the fence 3 days a month.

Pros: She can live feral on a hill with goats or in a fancy stall with a thick bedding and a fan.

Cons: She has needed a grazing muzzle when out 24/7 and not in work.

Pros: She gets along with every horse. Has been in multiple turnout situations in mixed herd or a mare herd. Gets along with everyone.

Cons: See milkshake comment. I cannot explain it but other horses get unusually attached to her. They hollar for her when they never have in the past. Mares/geldings/ponies. She is ridiculously popular. She’s fine about being taken away from the herd except the 3 days a month when her hormones are most active.

I will be very picky about who her new person/career will be and she can always retire out a my farm but she is to talented, sound, and young to be a pasture ornament.
