One thing I think gets lost sometimes is that this part of dog training gets pushed way too hard on certain dogs. Pressure has its place, but I still believe dogs learn better when thereās clarity and understanding behind it, not just pressure for the sake of pressure.
Maxx has already done a lot of free shaping fetch work, so this process should go pretty smoothly with him. Will there still be refusals and drops? Absolutely, and thatās when pressure comes on. But I donāt believe the process has to turn into a fight.
When we move to the ground, itāll be the same as it was on the table,clear communication, consistency, and making sure the dog understands how to succeed.
