American Eskimo Rescue of St. Louis

American Eskimo Rescue of St. Louis A Midwest, St. Louis-based organization to Rescue, Rehab, and Rehome American Eskimo dogs. Located in St. Louis, Missouri AER is an all-volunteer association.

The work of AER includes fostering, transporting, and networking to save the lives of American Eskimo dogs. There is no physical shelter for this association and foster homes take in homeless dogs until a forever home can be found. Since this association is a “breed-specific rescue association,” AER is able to keep Eskies out of shelters, thus making room for other homeless dogs. AER has been oper

ating since 1999. The program is funded by donations, adoption fees, and grants. For more information about fostering, adopting, or volunteering, please visit the AER website at www.eskierescuestl.org to complete an application and for more information. Anyone interested in adopting should Email [email protected] or call 314-647-1112. For faster replies, please Email or call. Thank you for visiting American Eskimo Rescue of St. Louis.

MARLEY has arrived from Oklahoma. Thank you to Denise and Michael & Valerie for transporting Marley today from Oklahoma to American Eskimo Rescue St. Louis. Marley is coming from a shelter where she was adopted but then returned due to shedding. All Eskie owners know about shedding (lol)! Marley is around 3-4 years old, 26 pounds, sweet, and OK with people and other dogs. Thank you so much Denise and Michael for driving the distances and also to Valerie for monitoring this transport. Marley is spayed, up to date on vaccinations, microchipped, and housebroken. If interested in Marley, please call 314-647-1112 or [email protected] (PS Marley is deaf and even knows some sign language!)

Buddy (DOB 4/17/20) is a male Eskimo Spitz. He has a fluffy coat and weighs 23 pounds. He is on the shy side but always greats volunteers with a small. We don’t require fenced yards for all of our shelter dogs, but Buddy is a fellow that could be a potential flight risk.

LEO is available for adoption or foster to adopt. He had a clean bill of health at Tri-City Animal & Bird Clinic and now up to date on vaccinations, heartworm negative, and negative f***l. Can't ask for more than that. LEO was an owner surrender as the family could no longer take care of him. LEO is 3 to 4 years old, 45 pounds, and a beautiful mix. What do you think he is? An American Eskimo? Probably not. Let us know what your guess is. No matter what, he is beautiful, young, and ready to play. For more information, please call 314-647-1112 or [email protected] -- we are working with him to find out how he gets along with others. Thank you.

Thank goodness for those rescue groups giving the Beagles a new home. This information is really helpful in handling shy dogs, which we have rescued before. Double leashing will help your shy dog from escaping.

Shy or timid dogs can panic in unfamiliar situations and may try to slip out of their equipment if startled. Using two leads—one attached to a martingale collar and one attached to a secure harness—adds an important layer of safety and backup protection. If one piece of equipment fails or slips off, you still have control of your dog. This simple precaution can help prevent escapes and keep your dog safe while building confidence on walks.

And also thank you to Dr. Bilyk (Tri-City Animal & Bird Clinic) and team for Sweet Pea's ongoing follow-up care. We would like to thank everyone involved in Sweet Pea's care (Donors, doctors, medical support staff, and fosters)! Thank you, Everyone, for helping Sweet Pea! Her knee is fixed now, and she will soon be able to walk without pain. Heartfelt appreciation to Donors for making this surgery possible for Sweet Pea!

Dear Eskie Friends and Rescue Community: What a wonderful day yesterday for GIVE STL DAY May 8, 2026. Thank you for supporting American Eskimo Rescue St. Louis. It was truly an amazing day. We surpassed our goal of $1500 and donations totaled $2200! That is awesome for the Reskies! And so many rescues come in needing so much: check-ups, spay/neuters, vaccinations, heartworm/f***l testing and much more. Along with GIVE STL DAY we held a fundraiser for Sweet Pea for her leg surgery and met that goal as well. Thank you to everyone who so generously gave to GIVE STL DAY and to the special fundraiser for Sweet Pea, who will have knee surgery on Monday, May 11. Thank you for helping us help the homeless Reskies!

Darla didn't know what freedom felt like. For years, her world was a crate: day and night, with no space, no comfort, and no reason to trust. She came to us from a hoarding situation frightened and unsure, with visible signs of neglect and a lifetime of fear behind her. Despite everything, Darla is gentle. She is not aggressive, just shy and scared. She had never known what it felt like to be safe, to rest outside of a crate, or to trust the people around her.

With the help of her foster family, Darla is beginning to change. She is slowly learning that it is safe to be near people, safe to relax, and safe to just exist. She will likely always need a patient, understanding home with another dog and a quiet environment, but we have already seen how far she has come. This is what your support makes possible. Today is Give STL Day, and donations made today help unlock matching funds and power hour prizes, allowing us to continue caring for dogs like Darla. Visit the link in our comments below to donate.

Poor Oliver. He didn’t sell. Oliver came from the same industrial breeding facility as Lizzie: he was actually one of her puppies. He was listed for $1,400, but no one wanted him because his ears did not stand straight up. He was pulled from the facility with an uncertain future, and thankfully we were able to take him in. When he arrived, he was shaking and terrified, with no idea what was happening. Oliver needed vaccinations, grooming, and neuter, but more than anything, he needed safety and stability.

Today, Oliver has been adopted by his foster family. He is still scared of many things, but he loves his people and his furry friends and continues to grow more confident every day. We are so thankful both of these dogs are doing well: Rescue, Rehab, Rehome. Today is Give STL Day, and every gift made today goes further through match funds and power hour prizes, helping us continue this work for dogs like Oliver. The link to help us continue this work is in the comments below.
