Nearly half of UK pet owners (48%) say they would consider ending a romantic relationship if their pet didn't approve of their partner, according to new research from Mars, Inc.
The trend is especially pronounced among Gen Z pet owners. More than a quarter (27%) regularly confide in their pets about their love lives — nearly twice the UK average of 16%. More than a third (35%) say they trust their pet's judgment of other people more than their own, compared to 24% across all age groups. Nearly one in five (18%) have prioritized time with their pet over going on a date.

New Mars survey data reveals the deepening emotional role pets play in British owners' daily and milestone decisions.

Humans have long depended on animals. Whether we saw them as food or as a means of getting work done, they enabled us to survive. But we have long bonded with them as well. I remember my grandmother talking about not eating pork for an entire winter, because she had loved the family pig. But today, pets occupy a unique space in our lives. Most of us don’t need them to work for us; we need them to love us. In a rapidly changing, digitally driven world, they keep us grounded and connected to reality.

Humans may believe we are at the top of the natural pecking order. But where would we be without the animals in our lives?

Pets make more good days – not only for ourselves, but for the communities where we live. The Human Animal Bond Research Institute (HABRI) is dedicated to exploring the connection between pets and mental well-being. To celebrate Mental Health Month, HABRI is proud to share three research-backed reasons why pets help us to have more good days together.

This year, Mental Health America (MHA)’s theme for Mental Health Month is More Good Days, Together, which inspires us to meet people where they are, support them as whole people, and make more good days possible for all. What makes a good day is different for everyone, but one thing we can all agr...

A familiar phrase claims that the eyes are the windows to the soul. But in cats, it’s their tail position that provides the greatest insight into what a cat is feeling.
Cats use their tail movements, along with their eyes, ears, and body postures, to communicate. Understanding cat tail language will help you to better understand your cat.

Why do cats wag their tails? What does a swishing tail or a tail in a question mark mean? Find out the meaning behind your cat’s tail language.

Note that when you’re interpreting cat body language, consider everything that’s going on around the cat. Put yourself in the cat’s paws and ask how the situation and environment—including the sights, sounds, and smells—might make them feel. For example, if a person is cornering a cat, even unintentionally, the cat might feel scared or threatened. If a cat looks upset for no reason, they may be sick or in pain.
The following are different body language signs that correspond to various emotions in our cats.

Cats have their own ways of communication, and learning to read cat body language is important for knowing what your kitty is telling you. Here’s how to read the body language of a cat.

Like humans, cats have a vast vocabulary. Up to 21 different feline vocalizations have been described in scientific research, but their vocal repertoire probably contains even more. Cats can use these vocalizations to create complex phrases—sort of like sentences created by people—and there are many reasons for why they speak up.

Though they look like soft, fuzzy triangles, a cat’s ears are actually highly specialized and fine-tuned to do much more than our own. Along with hearing, cat ears are made for hunting, hiding, and communicating. Here are some facts that may surprise you about your cat’s ears.

Cat ears are much more sensitive than our own, able to rotate and pick up far-away noises. Learn more about cat ears, what they can do, and how to care for them.
