June is here! Which means only a few weeks til the 4th of July celebrations begin. If your pet is afraid of loud noises and fireworks, start planning NOW! You don't want to be scrambling for help after your pet is fearful and upset. A few ideas:
1 - Invest in a thundershirt for dogs, and ask your vet if they would recommend calming treats (for cats or dogs). But remember, while those things can be helpful, they may not be enough for pets with a lot of noise related fear.
2 - Please make an appointment with your vet NOW to discuss prescription anti-anxiety medication. It may take a while to get an appointment - and you'll want to have everything on hand long before the fireworks begin!
3 - Start making plans for where your pets will be if you are going out to watch fireworks / attend celebrations on or around the 4th. Turning on TV / music for them can help to drown out the noise outside. Moving their crate to a basement room can also help them feel less vulnerable when the booming begins.
