We look forward to hearing from you! Jewell Animal Hospital is the oldest operational, small animal hospital west of the Mississippi. It was created by our founder Dr. Jay Jewell Sarhonson upon return from WW2 where he served in the cavalry as a veterinarian. In the cavalry he worked and maintained the mule train which carried heavy armor, food, and medical supplies across the mountains of China to US Troops. Dr. Jewell practiced medicine until the late 1970’s with a flare all of his own. Dr. Jewell collected and was given may dog figurines by clients over the years which are still on display at our hospital as well as his original Doctor’s Bag. You can view is cavalry uniform on display in pristine condition at the Soldier’s Memorial Museum in downtown St. Dr. Jewell lived in the upstairs of the hospital throughout his life and passed away in 2001 after a weekend of ball room dancing at the wonderful old age of 92 years. Dr. Krumrey bought the practice from Dr. Jewell in 1977. Dr. Krumrey practice here for 33 years and often referred to Jewell Animal Clinic as his 5th daughter. His fifth daughter was good to him over the years allowing him to raise a family of 4 daughters. He raised his family in St. Louis with his wife and retired in April 2006. Dr. Krumrey clients speak highly of his gentle and understanding nature. He was loved by many. Smith is our hospital’s current legacy, came to Jewell Animal Clinic in October 2004 with intentions of purchasing the practice. She formally took over the clinic in July 2006 and changed the name to Jewell Animal Hospital. Dr. Smith and her staff have given the hospital a face lift from head to toe. We have updated the look to a retro 1970 motif and modernized the medicine and the services that can be offered in the hospital while still maintaining the same homey atmosphere.

🐾 NEWBIE ALERT! 🐾 Meet Gus! 💙

Can we get a warm Jewell welcome for this handsome little guy?! 🥹

Gus is just 13 weeks old and already 8 pounds of cuteness! He stopped by for his 1st visit and completely stole our hearts. His favorite technician of the day was Spencer, and when he’s not busy being adorable, Gus loves Mom, Dad, and Hazel. 🐶❤️

We absolutely LOVE getting to meet our patients when they’re this little and watching them grow through the years.

Welcome to the Jewell Animal Hospital family, Gus! We can’t wait to see you again! 🐾🩺

✨ New Patient Alert at Jewell Animal Hospital! ✨

We’re welcoming yet ANOTHER new Jewell family member — everyone, say hello to Arlo! 💛🐾

This fluffy little Golden Retriever pup is 10 weeks old, weighing 11 pounds, and he instantly became the star of the hospital. His favorite technician today was Spencer (she’s very popular with the puppy crowd😉).

Arlo is a big fan of Penny, Mike, Bob, cuddles, his dad, and his mom — and he proudly plays with his favorite toy: Lambchop! 🐑💛

We’re so excited to welcome Arlo to the Jewell Animal Hospital family — and we can’t wait to watch this adorable little fluffball grow! 🐶✨

✨ New Patient Alert at Jewell Animal Hospital! ✨

Everyone say hello to Lucy — or as her family affectionately calls her, “Goose!” 🐾💕

Lucy is 12 weeks old, weighing in at a proud 14.8 lbs, and she completely charmed the whole clinic during her visit yesterday. Her favorite technician was Spencer (she chose her immediately — great taste, Lucy 😉).

This cutie loves neighbor dogs, cheese, food, and of course… socks 🧦💛
Her favorite toy right now is her beloved Lamby, and honestly, we can’t blame her.

We’re so excited to welcome Lucy to the Jewell family and watch her grow into those sweet floppy ears and big puppy eyes. 🐶✨

Welcome to the family, Lucy! 💛🐾

Everyone say hello to Chubs!

This sweet little one, also known as “Chubby Wubby,” stole our hearts the moment they walked through the door. Their favorite technician was Spencer (we get it, Spencer’s pretty great 😉).

Chubs has excellent taste in life, a cow toy is the ultimate prize, the couch is clearly the best seat in the house, and treats? Well… treats are the way straight to this pup’s heart 🐮🛋️🦴

We’re so happy to welcome Chubs to the Jewell family and can’t wait to watch them grow! 💛
