Shawn's comment in the RFT, pretty much sums up the problem and the culture war in this country as it relates to the War On Drugs:
'Hi. Shawn here. Don't have time or inclination to get into all the comments here, but wanted to respond to the accusation that my wife and I are "potheads". I figured this would come up.
I am a partner in a computer security consultancy. Many of my clients require background checks and in some cases drug screening. I've also held Federal security clearances in the past.
I actually told Ray I would be happy to take a drug test and share the results with RFT. Offer still stands. Clean rap sheet too, thanks for asking.
In numerous polls, the majority of Americans have demonstrated they are in favor of ma*****na decriminalization. So, unless you think the majority of Americans are stoners, that should tell you that one doesn't have to be a stoner to believe in decriminalization.
This isn't a fringe issue anymore. I'm not a hippie, and I can't stand the Grateful Dead. I've even voted Republican a time or two. Same applies to my wife, except for the voting Republican bit, and I think she might have been to a Dead show once in college.
Okay, that's all. Again, pro-legalization, but not a stoner. Not a p**o or a ra**st either. Because, you know, those are clearly the same thing.
