Cobbler is working on something VERY special for you all.

Unfortunately, Cobbler believes art cannot be rushed.

Cobbler also believes in snack breaks, staring into space, and sometimes doing one single brushstroke before needing a nap.

So since we go at Cobbler’s pace, his masterpieces will probably take a few more days.

Stay tuned. They’re going to be worth the wait.

Recently, someone came in to meet bunnies and ended up applying for one. They wanted to bond their current rabbit and their setup looked great.

We only asked for one change: switching their pellets to a healthier food.

That was it. Not a mansion. Not a trust fund. Not a tiny Peloton for the bunny.

Just better pellets.

They refused and decided not to adopt from us. And listen, we’re not here to shame anyone for not knowing. Rabbit care is confusing, pet stores sell plenty of things that should be launched into the sun, and we’ve all learned along the way.

But when a rescue says, “Hey, this one small change would be much healthier for your rabbit,” the response should probably not be, “Absolutely not, me and the bad pellets are bonded for life.”

Our adoption requirements aren’t random. They exist because we want every bunny, including the one already in your home, to have the safest and healthiest life possible.

We don’t ask things to be difficult. We ask because we care.

And truly, if switching pellets is the dealbreaker, then no, we probably aren’t the right rescue for you.

Because around here, the bunnies come first. Always.

The Smart Start program is officially in full swing!

Today, our very first Smart Start bunny came in for her initial exam and contract review. Meet Willow.

Willow’s owner rescued her from Craigslist with her daughter and they are both completely head over heels for her. Her owner told us, “You never know people’s intentions with rabbits. It scares me.” So when she saw Willow listed, she stepped in.

We get it.

Unfortunately, Willow’s rescuer is also dealing with medical issues and is having trouble affording her own treatment, let alone Willow’s spay. That’s exactly why Smart Start exists.

Willow’s setup is already great, so we’re just having her owner complete our education course, sent them home with appropriate food for free, and are making sure Willow’s spay is fully scheduled and covered through one of our vets.

She’ll also have direct access to our director, Katie, by text whenever she needs help. Not just today. Not just until the spay. For life.

After Willow’s exam, her owner texted us:

“Thank you so much for everything! This is such a blessing for our sweet bun and family! I will let you know when I get signed up for the education course and look forward to hearing from you soon!”

This is what Smart Start is all about.

Keeping loved rabbits with the families who adore them. Helping people before they’re forced into surrender. Making sure bunnies get proper care, even when life gets hard.

Willow is safe, loved, and officially Smart Started.

Today has been absolutely nuts and Cobbler is NOT helping.

We have a booth at Pawfest, one of St. Louis’s biggest pet expos, and back at Dolly’s it has been pure chaos.

We have not had breakfast. We will not have lunch. At this point, we are being kept alive by whatever crumbs Cobbler has not already claimed as a personal snack tax.

The Norman family walked in and immediately noticed a baby bird in distress hanging from a nest inside a light fixture. Because apparently even the wildlife knows Dolly’s is the place to go. We grabbed a ladder, rescued the poor little thing, and now the 3 day old baby sparrow is safely headed to a rehabber.

Meanwhile, it’s professional photography day with the lovely Grace Marie Photography, so we’ve had dogs, lizards, turtles, guinea pigs, and more coming through for glamour shots. It is basically school picture day, but with more shedding and a much higher chance of someone pooping on the backdrop.

We’re also having a regular adoption day, because apparently we looked at the calendar and said, “What if we made it even more nuts?”

Families have come from Missouri, Kentucky, Iowa, Indiana, and beyond to meet our bunnies and learn proper rabbit care. That’s just today! The amount of learning here is off the chain.

A few people came in hoping to “buy” a bunny on the spot without applying or being approved first. They left mad, but that’s okay. We’re not a bunny vending machine.

Someone also called wanting to buy a bunny from a pet store and then trade them in here if they “don’t like it.”

We educated them. With our mouths. Not our eyes. Our eyes said other things.

We’ve done nail trims, grooming, bunny meet-and-greets, adoption appointments, and Blossom Baby and Harriett were put on pending.

All of our Smart Start bunnies are coming in today, and we’re sending most of those families home with full setups and food for their buns.

Oh, and we also had 3 owner surrenders.

Because why have 1 event when you can have 12, plus a bird rescue, plus a rabbit named Cobbler actively lowering workplace efficiency?

Want to help us keep this circus running? We just entered tons of new (pictured) products. Everything from bunny salt and pepper shakers to willow wreaths:
https://dollys-dream-store.square.site/s/shop.

Also, swipe to the end to see our new display. Turns out it’s from Victoria’s Secret. Whoops 🤷🏻‍♀️. It matches though!

A day full of side quests. Thanks for supporting us through them!

The collab you didn’t know you needed:

Cobbler + a baby marginated tortoise.

We didn’t get it on camera, because naturally the cutest things only happen when no one is filming, but Cobbler even chinned the baby tortoise.

For non-rabbit people, chinning is when a bunny rubs their chin on something to claim it as theirs. So yes, Cobbler has officially declared this tiny tortoise as property of Cobbler Industries, LLC.

Cobbler is here today for professional photos with Grace Marie Photography, so if you bring your pets in from 10-1 for pictures, you can also meet him. Truly a win-win. Come for the photos, stay for the tiny interspecies business merger.

Eleanor Rainbow, Best Friend, and so many more will be getting their glamour shots today too.

It’s giving pet picture day, but somehow weirder. Which is exactly how we like it. See you (and your pets) soon!

Let us help you find the right bunny for your family.

We know our bunnies. Like, really know them. We know who wants a friend, who wants to be worshipped from a respectful distance, who is secretly a cat in disguise, and who would happily become the tiny friend-shaped love of your life.

Finding the right match matters, especially if you’re bonding with a current bunny. Sometimes the bunny you think you want is not the bunny your bunny wants. And unfortunately, your bunny does get a vote. A very dramatic, foot-thumping vote.

Sheila said, “I had been coming into Dolly's for a year before I adopted so Katie knew me pretty well. I only had 2 meet and greets before I found the perfect bonded pair. Her recommendations were spot on.”

That’s exactly what we want.

Not rushed adoptions. Not random picks. Real matches that make sense for the bunny, the family, and the long-term happily ever after.

Come meet the bunnies. Tell us about your home, your current pets, your lifestyle, and what you’re hoping for. You can also add all of that information here: https://forms.gle/xatrAFuJh65GYqTG9

Then let us help you find your perfect match.

Magic Mike is officially ready for a forever family! And yes, the name fits.

According to his foster, Magic Mike is quite the showstopper. He loves attention and lives for head pets. He also free roams like he is performing nightly to a sold-out crowd.

He is neat. He is tidy. He keeps himself and his space in pristine condition. Honestly, his pen is probably cleaner than most of our cars.

When he binkies, it is not just a binky. It is a full performance. A little flair, a little “you’re welcome, ladies.”

Magic Mike is handsome and very aware that he has fans. He would probably enjoy having a bunny buddy to admire him full-time, because every star needs an audience.

This sweet boy is ready for his forever home, preferably one with lots of head pets.

Apply to adopt him here: https://forms.gle/xatrAFuJh65GYqTG9

We love helping other rescues.

Established rescues, brand new rescues, “I accidentally became a rescue because people keep handing me animals” rescues - all of you.

Rescue can feel really lonely, especially when you’re trying to figure out intakes, fosters, adoptions, vetting, fundraising, boundaries, applications, social media, the general public, and how to not cry in a Rural King parking lot.

But none of us should have to figure it all out alone.

We’re all in this together. Different names, different setups, same mission: help the animals.

If your rescue has questions, we’d love to help however we can. Need advice on foster systems? Adoption policies? Fundraising? Storefronts? Boundaries? Handling hard cases? Starting from scratch? Ask us.

We don’t know everything, but we’ve learned a lot. Some of it the hard way. Some of it the very expensive way. Some of it while holding a rabbit named something ridiculous (we’re looking at you Mr. Fart).

So tell us: what questions does your rescue have for us? How can we help?

Can you believe Missy hasn’t had any applications yet?!

She came to us from a Mississippi rescue that was shutting down and has been nothing but an absolute delight.

Her foster mom says, “She’s a beautiful, curious girl, who explores new environments by judgmentally thumping, before settling in, and arranging things how she wants them. She didn’t show much interest in the hay roller, but she loved the palm donut I gave her, and she liked exploring a little today for a little supervised free roam time.

She’s shy, but easily lured by snackies.

She likes to burrow in a blanket, and hide out in a tunnel.

She’s a beautiful girly, and is a little shy. But has some sass, and sweetness to her.

I’m obsessed with her coloring. My friend’s 9yo loves the diamond on her head, and she’s got the cutest little dulap.”

The Bunny Pet Food Pantry is empty.

Not “oops, we’re running low” empty. More like “not a single thing on the shelves empty”.

We’re down to our last bag of food and our last box of hay - both of which a family in need is picking up today. After that, the shelves will be naked, afraid, and completely useless.

We currently have over 100 bunnies in our care, which means over 100 tiny hay vacuums are waking up every morning ready to demolish everything in their path.

Donated supplies help feed our fosters AND stock the Pet Food Pantry, for local rabbit families who are struggling. Right now, we are out out. The bunnies have eaten us into another dimension.

If you’re able to help, please donate through our Chewy wishlist: https://www.chewy.com/g/dollys-dream-home-rabbit-rescue_b89951205

The bunnies would thank you, but they’re busy chewing the furniture and doing bunstruction.
