🐾Plain Dealing Rescue Effort🐾
Plain Dealing has a dog problem.
There have been mama dogs dropping babies all over Plain Dealing for years.
A local resident has been scooping them up one after another, but the moms keep evading capture. She knew of two litters currently in two different locations.
When Murphy came in this week (the tiny puppy with Puppy Strangles) the crew @ LaMa was worried others from that litter may be suffering the same condition, so I knew a rescue effort was brewing.
PART 1: Murphy’s littermates were hiding out under a totally collapsed building. A great place for a mama to keep puppies safe, but that makes getting them out difficult. Trusty Josh shimmied his was through insulation (and who knows what else) to get this first batch of puppies — Murphy’s siblings. He snatched them out of there one by one — I’ll put the video in the comments!
The sheer number of FLEAS! I can’t begin to think how itchy and miserable they must have been, but luckily none of them had Strangles like their brother. 7 siblings (plus Murphy) are now safe. Their mom Mavis is still outsmarting efforts to be captured— but we haven’t given up. On to the next location… 🚙
PART 2: The second litter is a little older and were certainly less keen on being caught. Two puppies were hiding under a shed/trailer (Bobbie and crew already has the other 3 of this litter after catching them earlier this week). Josh and the rest of the rescue team somehow managed to grab the last 2 despite their best efforts to stay put in their den.
Their mama was very upset by the whole thing. It was sad to hear her barking trying to tell rescuers to STOP — I wish I could explain if she’d just go in the trap she could be safe, too, but she’s been on her own a long time. She’s taken care of who knows how many litters. I wish she’d just give it up and let us take care of her now. 😢
A trap is set for Mama @ location #2.
It will be monitored for several days multiple times a day. If she won’t go in, trap will be moved & used to try and catch the notoriously elusive Mavis.
All this to say: Plain Dealing, please fix your dogs. If you live in Bossier Parish (outside of Bossier City limits) email your Police Juror to implore them to get an Animal Control Facility.
This rescue effort wiped us out of some basic medical supplies. We need to order more trays of dog vaccines, Panacur wormer, Ponazuril, pretty much everything.
You can use the button below to chip in, or visit our website: https://lamaanimalrescue.org/support-lamas-mission
Also, we could use supplies from our Amazon wishlist. Washable or disposable puppy pads, tarps, puppy & adult food, cleaning supplies:

I should also state the obvious— we were closed for intake before this. But now we’re REALLY beyond our max capacity. If you find any animals that need help, you’re welcome to email, us but we don’t have one single square inch of space.
