Why nail care is important:

“So how’d you get started on doing this?” Is a question I get asked at virtually every first appointment I have with new clients.

I rescued Atlas in 2017, after he had spent two years living as a stray and in a shelter. During those two years, with minimal (if any) grooming, Atlas’s nails grew incredibly long. In late 2018 my mom mentioned the length, and I began researching grooming and the dangers of not taking care of these small details.

So let’s talk dangers of overgrown nails.

First it’s important to understand the anatomy of your dogs nail. What we can see is a hard layer of keratin which surrounds your dog’s quick; a bundle of nerve endings which connects to the bone (VCA). While cutting down the keratin does not harm the dog, cutting or exposing the quick can be extremely painful.

When nails are too long, they push back again the ground into the nail bed which causes pain. Your animal will eventually begin to change their posture and gait or their feet will become splayed. This splaying or change in posture and gait can open your dog up to numerous injuries (AKC)

Long nails are also more susceptible to cracks and breaks, which can remove the keratin shell from the quick (as pictured below), exposing it to the elements. This injury can cause pain or infection if left untreated, which can effect the bone attached to said quick (VCA)

2019 HOLIDAY DOG-SITTING:

I am in town and available for dog-sitting this thanksgiving! If you need me for a day or a week, I’ll be there!

Dog-sitting starts at $15/day and includes at least one daily walk, quality hours spent each day, and a nail trim if needed or bath (+$5)! I am also available to transport your pets to and from (doggy day care, training classes, set play dates, groomers, etc) to keep them on schedule!

I know it’s hard not to worry about your pets while you’re away, which is why I pride myself on constant communication, including pictures, videos, and activity updates multiple times throughout the day! (Expects LOTS of snaps)

I am available from Thursday November 14 (afternoon) to mid December, and will not be available for the week of Christmas. I will, however, be available again for any New Year’s/Year trips between December 30-January 15

Message me to take the worry out of your trip! ❤️🐶

I know it’s been a while since the last update, but now that I have officially finished college (Yay!) I have more time to dedicate to my animal care venture, and I have many ideas coming for y’all! These include, but are not limited to:
- Boarding and Day Care options
- Deshedding and Coat Care
- Basic Training
- Dog Accessories

Once I have completed the correct courses and training, I will be able to offer full service grooming and training services as well!

Thank you all for your continued support of Atlas Grooming and Care 🥰

With graduation right around the corner for me, I’m looking into some grooming programs so I can offer full service grooming (hair cuts, a**l glands, tooth brushing, etc) from the comfort of home! Stay tuned for more services to come! 😊

- Though you are more than welcome to fill multiple cards and accumulate rewards, only one reward may be used per visit.
- Due to a limited first supply, cards must be requested.
- Any tampering or forgery of rewards will result in the loss of participation in this program.
