🚩TWO CONFIRMED CASES OF RABIES IN GREENE COUNTY! 🚩

Guys, if your pet is not up to date on their Rabies vaccinations, please call and schedule an appointment. Rabies vaccines are $35.00 for one year and $56.00 for three years. (3 year rabies only available after first Rabies vaccine) Rabies is FATAL to you, your pets and your kids. It's not worth the risk. Indoor and outdoor pets are required by law to be up to date on Rabies vaccines for this reason.

Spring is our busy season so call as soon as you can to make an appointment. If you are not sure whether your pet is up to date on their vaccines, call and ask a receptionist to check for you. If you would like a copy of your vaccine certificates to stay on top of the dates they are due, we can print or email one to you!!

❄️ 🌨️ 🥶 SNOW?!?!? 🥶 🌨️ ❄️

I'm sure you have all heard about the storm that we are expecting this weekend, that being said, we have some friendly reminders. 😺

❄️-Don't get stuck without your pet's medications! If you are getting close to needing a refill, give us a call and then come pick up your meds today or tomorrow before the winter madness! 💊

❄️-The wind chill is going to be cold enough that short haired animals need to be protected when going outside. 🌬️❄️

❄️-Outdoor animals need to have a warm, dry place to get out of the wind and snow. Straw is best. Make sure to check on them several times a day and make sure the water doesn't freeze!

So for Thanksgiving we talked about all of the food do’s and don’ts such as chocolate, alcohol, garlic, onions ect. to make sure to keep your pets safe this Holiday season, with Christmas right around the corner, we thought it would be a good idea to mention some Christmas hazards you may or may not think about to make sure that you and your pets can enjoy the holiday season with minimal vet visits. ;)

We all love our Christmas decor and hanging it to Mariah Carrey’s All I Want For Christmas (extra festive), but some of our favorite holiday decorations may not be the best thing to have in reach of our sneaky pets. Safety tip: Secure Christmas trees around cats and dogs prone to zoomies to prevent tipping

-🚫Tinsel and Ribbons: Cats LOVE these, but they also love to cause potential life threatening intestinal blockages, so make sure they are out of reach of our pointy eared friends and some dogs too!

-🚫Ornaments: Broken glass can cut paws and mouths, so make sure to keep glass ornaments higher up on the tree and out of your pets reach!

-🚫Mistletoe and Holly: Berries and leaves are poisonous to pets.

-🚫Candles- open flames are a fire/burn risk (My fluffy cat set his tail on fire once! It was traumatic for us both!)

-🚫Electrical cords: Chewing can cause burns or electrocution.

-🚫Tree Water: For people who have real trees, tree water can contain harmful bacteria or preservatives

-🚫Batteries: swallowing them can cause internal burns

-🚫Poinsettias and Amaryllis are both toxic to pets and Lillies are also toxic and can cause kidney failure

Happy Thanksgiving from your friends at Sunshine Animal Hospital!

Remember with all of the family coming in to town, and the festivities, make sure you and your guests know these things before feeding your pet those special thanksgiving snacks to make sure everyone has a happy tummy!

Things your pet CAN have in small amounts:

-turkey (remove fat, skin and bones, unseasoned)
-pumpkin- (canned or cooked)
-carrots (if no bladder problems)
-sweet potato (cooked, unseasoned)
-green beans (if no bladder problems)
-cranberries (cut into smaller pieces for our small breed friends)
-apples (no core)

These things are DON'Ts:

-high fat foods, salty foods
-mushrooms
-desserts, candy (especially chocolate!)
-onions and garlic
-raisins and grapes, pitted fruits
-alcohol
-macadamia nuts
-caffeine
- anything sweetened with xylitol
