🐾 Our spay and neuter numbers were down this month, but that certainly didn't mean we were any less busy! 🐾

This month brought a significant increase in emergency and medically necessary surgeries, including:

• 3 cherry eye repairs
• 2 limb amputations
• 1 tail amputation
• Removal of a piece of plastic from a cat's nasal cavity
• Removal of a metal pellet from a pet's nasal cavity during a routine dental procedure
• 6 tumor removals
• A concerning number of pyometra surgeries

Many of these conditions are painful, expensive, and in some cases life-threatening.

One of the most alarming trends we've seen is the number of pyometra cases. Pyometra is a severe uterine infection that affects unspayed female dogs and cats and can quickly become fatal without emergency surgery. Every pyometra surgery is a reminder of why spaying is so important.

💙 Spaying and neutering saves lives.

Some important facts:

✔️ Spaying eliminates the risk of pyometra.
✔️ Spaying greatly reduces the risk of mammary cancer, especially when performed before the first heat cycle.
✔️ Neutering reduces the risk of testicular cancer and certain prostate diseases.
✔️ Fixed pets are less likely to roam, reducing their risk of being hit by cars, injured in fights, or becoming lost.
✔️ Preventing unwanted litters helps reduce shelter overcrowding and decreases the number of animals entering rescues and shelters each year.

Spay and neuter isn't just about preventing puppies and kittens, it's about preventing suffering, avoiding medical emergencies, and giving pets the healthiest life possible.

🐾 We currently have appointments available and would love to help get your pets scheduled.

🚨🐾 HUGE MONTH AT MAIN STREET SPAY NEUTER! 🐾🚨

We are beyond excited to share that 395 animals were spayed and neutered in the month of April, including 72 feral cats!! 🙌🔥

That brings us to an incredible 1,479 animals fixed in just 4 months… let that sink in. That is 1,479 lives changed and thousands more prevented from being born into homelessness. 💙🐶🐱

And that’s not all, on top of our surgery numbers, we’ve also cared for 894 additional patients this month through vaccines, wellness and sick exams, dentals, and other necessary medical procedures. Our clinic has been BUSY, and it’s all because of this amazing, supportive community.

⚠️ We also want to talk about something serious we are seeing more and more of: PYOMETRA.
Pyometra is a life-threatening infection of the uterus that affects unspayed female animals. It causes the uterus to fill with pus and toxins, and without emergency surgery, it can quickly become fatal.

We are seeing a significant increase in these cases, and they are not only heartbreaking but also completely preventable. Spaying your pet removes the uterus, eliminating the risk of pyometra entirely.

👉 This is exactly why spaying and neutering is so important:
• Prevents deadly conditions like pyometra
• Reduces unwanted litters and overpopulation
• Helps lessen the strain on already overwhelmed rescues
• Keeps your pets healthier, longer

Kitten season is here, and the numbers are only going to rise from here if we don’t act NOW.

💥 Let’s keep this momentum going and make an even bigger impact together!

🌷 Spring is here! 🌷
What does that mean?

🐾 Babies, babies, and more babies! 🐾

Puppies, kittens, and every surprise litter in between.

How do we help solve this every spring?
✨ Spay and Neuter! ✨

Because while baby animals are adorable, surprise litters can quickly overwhelm shelters, rescues, and our community.

Or for dogs:
🐶 “Spring fever is real… and your animal does NOT need a summer litter.”

We currently have appointments available next week for kitties at Main Street Spay & Neuter, so now is the perfect time to get scheduled!

🐾 Feral cat standby accepted Monday–Wednesday
🕗 Drop-off at 8:00 AM

Let’s work together to keep our community pets healthy and help reduce overpopulation this spring 💕🐕🐈

***We want to take a moment to help clear up a few things and keep everyone informed during this transition.***

First, we want to share that we are not taking over for Willamette Animal Guild (WAG). Their closure was unexpected, and unfortunate. At the time they closed, WAG communicated that they would be working on refunding deposits, so any updates regarding that would need to come directly from them.

What we can do, and are committed to doing is helping support our community where it’s needed most right now.

We are here to assist with post-operative concerns for pets who had surgery through WAG. Main Street management is monitoring email 24/7 for post-op related concerns, so please don’t hesitate to reach out.

Our team is also doing our very best to accommodate the large number of pets who were scheduled there.

We kindly ask for patience and understanding as we work through a very high volume of calls and requests. Our team is small, currently with one receptionist, and she has been working incredibly hard to respond to everyone as quickly as possible. A little kindness truly goes a long way, and we appreciate it more than you know.

To help answer some common questions:

• We are not able to offer the same pricing as WAG, as they had grants and donations that helped offset costs.

• We are looking into whether SPOT vouchers approved through WAG can be honored, but we do not have a confirmed answer just yet.

• We do require a deposit when scheduling appointments to help minimize no-shows and ensure we can serve as many pets as possible.

• We also require prepayment at the time of drop-off so we can continue providing care efficiently for everyone.

We understand this situation has been stressful and frustrating for many, and we truly empathize. Please know we are doing everything we can to step up and support both pets and their people during this time.

Thank you for your patience, your kindness, and your support, it means so much to our team and helps us continue doing this important work for the community.
