We were contacted by the Justice For Snoop folks about 3 dogs needing to be trapped after their owners moved out of the house and didnt bother to take them with them, let alone untie them from the trees they were tied to initially. They chewed through those ties and had been living on trash that the owners had literally everywhere on the property until the property owner was notified and reached out for help. The Joplin Humane Society Animal Adoption & Resource Center will be taking these dogs in once caught (thank you!).

With there being 3 dogs, those of you who follow our work know that it takes time and patience and a lot of monitoring their eating habits to understand who should be trapped first or if we can get them eating so that all are trapped together.

All pretty standard stuff for a case with multiple dogs needing to be trapped, being in a bad service area, our cameras do not work there, which means the only way I've been able to monitor is via being there, in person and watching, for hours at a time so they get comfortable with me being there and actually coming out to eat. But I've finally gotten enough data on their feeding habits to make a solid plan and I will be setting the trap tonight for them. The plan is to trap the smallest one first, and then the other 2 together, most likely on another day.

With spending multiple days and nights out to monitor, gas prices soaring right now, and with more than one dog needing caught, this case is draining the ERC account quickly, and the trap isn't even set yet. (And it's not the only case I'm working currently either).

We rely on donations to be able to keep helping owners for free. Our case load is constant, our donations coming in are not. If you support our work or we've helped to trap a dog for you in the past, please consider helping us to continue to do just that by becoming a monthly supporter of ERC. The dogs appreciate it, and so do we.

We’re a licensed 501c3 charity, and are verified as such on both Venmo and PayPal. Please double-check before donating, as lookalike accounts do exist.

‼️ IMPORTANT PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT ‼️

Please read and share this with any lost and found groups you’re in. This is important.

I’m addressing something that continues to come up, because it is costing dogs valuable time.

There is a repeated pattern happening right now: a specific individual/group will tell lost dog owners they are coming to help track their dog, stay in communication for a period of time, and promise to show, but never follow through. This often includes multiple delays, cancellations, or extended silence during communication.

In many situations, money (donations) and/or expenses have been discussed before any in-person help ever happens.

This is not about opinions or methods. It’s about reliability and follow-through in time-sensitive situations.

IF YOU HAVE A LOST DOG:
Please be cautious about who you rely on for help.

Do not pause your efforts waiting on anyone unless there is a confirmed, reliable plan and they actually show up.

These things need to be done immediately, do not wait. Continue focusing on:
•Spreading the word to get sightings
• Keeping the dog in one area by keeping it consistent. (Consistency happens when food/water are being provided .)
• Reducing pressure so the dog doesn’t keep moving. (Let them feel invisible to you and others so they will feel safe)
• Be cautious about sending/donating money to someone's personal account.

IF YOU ARE OFFERING HELP:
Only commit if you can and will follow through. If plans change, communicate immediately so the owner can pivot.

This pattern has now happened enough times that it needs to be addressed so it doesn’t continue costing dogs time they cannot get back.

Please protect your time, your resources, and your dog.

Quick question:

How many would like to see things on this page other than trapping? Like informational/educational posts related to lost, stray, and owned dogs? Or do you guys prefer just the trapping stories?

For example, I'm currently on my way to Ozark to scan a dog for a micro hip that was caught by a family to hopefully reunite him with his owners. This dog is stand offish to people he doesn't know, but is in a contained area, would you like to see how it is I approach him and how I get him to trust me enough to scan him?

If so, please drop s comment below, if enough interest, I will try and do a live recording post when I get there.

I'm sure everyone would love an update about Miss "Etta", the median dog!

Well, here it is! Words cannot express how thankful I am to this family and to stray rescue for finding her the perfect home to go to.

This is the text I just got, and with their permission I'm sharing it here.

It is well worth the read and for those that were part of her journey and called her in or posted her, thank you for all your help getting her caught.

Get your tissues out!

Meet Brody. This sweet fella was posted all over Leigh's Lost and Found and the Galloway neighborhood page for weeks. He was initially seen with another husky, which we've come to find out was his sister.

He had been reported as howling a very sad howl at night, and even heard that he was limping, assumed hit by a vehicle, so we jumped into action to get him safe once Rescue One stepped up to take him in.

When he was caught he was very very scared and barked at me to try and keep me away, but as you can see in the photo, he settled down very quickly. And then he just opened up and wanted to love fully again. Happy to be safe.

When we scanned him for a chip, he had one! He was chipped to Humane Society all the way in Illinois!

***Note: We all had no idea what happened to his sister, and weren't even positive if the 2 huskies that had been seen were him and his sister before we caught him. And all of this info was made known because he was chipped. So here's your reminder, please chip your pets! ***

When I contacted the humane society his chip was registered to, they were beyond words. They had gotten his sister back 3 weeks ago when the finders from Springfield drove her back to them. (Thank you to those folks!!) And given info saying he had been hit by a car and had passed by someone.

Turns out, the person they adopted him to have him and his sister away to someone else instead of returning him to the shelter, like was in the contract they signed, and those people dumped them both here in Springfield, all alone.

And then his sister was gone, and it was just Brody, fending for himself, and scared and crying out for his sister at night.

Someone from the humane society drove to STL to meet a volunteer from Rescue One that stepped up without hesitation to drive him half way (Thank you so much Wally!!) and they now have him back, and he now has his sister back.

Watch their reunion video, but grab your tissues, because you'll need them. No more sad howls for his sister, only happy ones and pure love.

Thank you to everyone that sent in sightings, to the wonderful volunteers that helped to feed him before trapping took place, Rescue One, and NAWS Humane Society he came from that eagerly accepted him back with open arms.

So happy Brody is back with his sister now! Aren't they adorable??

Many of you were aware that ERC was working on a dog that had been seen in the median of the interstate many times over the last month. I'm happy to say she has been caught and is now safe!

This post is long, but I want to share this girl's incredible story with you:

Harriet's ("The Median Dog") Recovery Story:

She was first seen just before the winter storm hit.

She had chosen the median of the highway as her home.

The day we set the first trap was the same day snow was forecasted to roll in. By the next morning, it was piling up. We kept that trap in place as long as we safely could, even as it became half buried and freezing temperatures began stiffening the closing mechanism.

She never showed.

When the snow became deep enough that the trap could no longer function properly, we had to pull it. That is always hard, especially not knowing if the dog made it through the storm.

This weighed heavily on mine and Morgan’s hearts.

Morgan is who initially called me saying she spotted her under the overpass, allowing us to know she was coming to the median by choice and wasn’t physically trapped there.

She is also the one who took the video (see the comments for that video) of Harriet sleeping in the median as cars passed by her only a few feet away at highway speed — the video I later posted to Missouri Paws, which led the rescue community to rally and secure placement for her with Stray Rescue of St. Louis .

Morgan continued feeding even when sightings stopped. Even when hope felt thin.

One morning, she saw paw prints in the snow. The food was gone.

Hope returned.

We set the trap there, baited it with yummy foods and watched and waited.

For days, all we saw there at the trap were cats and birds.

At that point, we both were thinking the same thing, but not saying it. But the possibility that she hadn’t made it through the storm as no sightings of her were coming in from anywhere was becoming more and more likely as the time went on.

Then Springfield-Greene County Animal Control reached out. They had stayed in contact and notified me anytime calls came in. A nearby church had reported a dog matching her description sleeping on their property for a week!

She had survived the storm.

The church was incredible. They allowed us to establish a feeding station. She showed up on camera three nights in a row.

We planned to trap.

The night before we were going to set it, she didn’t come.

The week she was there, the church was quiet due to no meetings being held there due to the weather.

Church activities had resumed, and so did the Construction of the sound barrier wall along I-44, directly in front of the church property. The increase in activity and attention made her visits more sporadic, even though she was still being seen in the area.

Eventually, she retreated back to the median we had worked so hard to move her away from.

That’s where she chose to stay, on a discarded futon someone had lost off a truck in the middle of the highway.

For three days.

We received daily reports from all over. People called 911. People posted on Leigh's Lost and Found. People messaged me directly.

Strangers driving past her, concerned and wanting her safe.

This community notices. And we are so thankful.

But setting a trap in a highway median is not something you do casually. If pressured, which easily can happen in a situation like this, a dog can bolt straight into traffic, and that risk is often fatal.

At one point, an animal control officer entered the median in response to reports. It was an extremely risky situation. Approaching a loose dog in that environment can end very badly, and it is not something the public should attempt.

But something important happened in that moment.

She did not relocate.

She barked. She held her ground. She stayed anchored to that spot.

I was already considering the possibility that we might have to contain her there if she returned again but that interaction accelerated the timeline. It gave insight faster than waiting for her to show us on her own, though it came with significant risk.

Without a controlled plan, pressure in a highway median can, and usually does, cost a dog their life.

So the next morning, Morgan, her boyfriend, and I moved quickly and strategically, and set the trap in a way that minimized disturbance to her.

She was captured within the hour.

————————————————————————

Harriet survived a winter storm in a highway median.

She survived construction noise and activity.

She survived freezing nights alone.

She watched everyone live their lives from afar, too afraid to come to anyone for help.

And once she was safe?

Etta emerged.

I sat with her in my truck with her in the backseat in a crate when we got to my house the night we caught her, to let her be near me without any other distractions.

I watched videos on my phone, answered texts, etc and just let her see I wasn't there to harm her.

No pressure from me, just presence. I didn't try to talk to her, or look at her even. With the constant noise of being that close to the highway for that long, a quiet environment where she could fully feel safe was needed.

She laid there, watching me, then falling asleep. And when she woke up, she let out a huge sigh, stood up, and wagged her tail and whined while trying to put her paws through the kennel to reach my arm.

We named her Harriet, after Harriet Tubman:
Strong. Determined. Unmovable in the face of danger.

and “Etta” for short.

It felt fitting for a dog who navigated traffic, survived a winter storm, and chose her ground carefully.

The same dog who had claimed a highway median as shelter because people couldn't bother her there… melted into hands.

She leaned in.

She sought comfort.

She let herself be held.

Her body softened. Her eyes changed. The alert, calculating survivor gave way to a young puppy who simply wanted connection.

That contrast is always the part that gets me.

The dog who survives alone in traffic… is still just a baby underneath it all.

From highway median… to warmth, safety, and endless gratitude and love.

She doesn’t have to sleep in the median anymore.

And she didn’t get there because of one person.

She got there because Morgan made the call and followed the process to a T.

Because Stray Rescue of St. Louis said yes.

Because Animal Control communicated.

Because a church opened their doors and let us set up there without any hesitation.

Because people reported what they saw.

Because this community cared.

It may be a different team every time. Different neighborhoods. Different helpers.

But it is never a solo effort.

And this team showed up for her. 🐾

((Enjoy the photos from the trap Cam that show her recovery from the trap. I'll add additional photos into the comments as well.))

SEARCH UNDERWAY FOR MISSING MOTHER DOG CONNECTED TO SPARTA DUMPSTER PUPPY CASE
🔍
Animal Angels Network is asking the community for urgent assistance in locating Bella, a 7-year-old mother dog connected to the publicized case of a litter of newborn puppies found dumped in a Sparta dumpster last week. The case, currently under investigation, resulting in criminal charges.
While the puppies have been safely transported their mother remains missing and unaccounted for.
Bella is described as:
Age: 7 years old
under 50 pounds
Temperament: Friendly, but likely confused
Appearance: Black and tan coloring with a gray muzzle

Animal Angels Network has partnered with Emergency Rescue Consultancy & Brittany Scherff, who will oversee all search and containment procedures to ensure Bella’s safety.
This mother dog has already been through enough. The puppies survived because someone spoke up. Now we need the same community awareness and compassion to bring their mom to safety.
IMPORTANT: DO NOT CHASE OR CALL BELLA
Lost and abandoned dogs especially a mother recently separated from her puppies can go into survival mode, making them prone to flee when approached.
Anyone who spots Bella should:
Not chase, call, or whistle
Keep a safe distance
Attempt to take a photo or video
Reporting Contact:
Message Animal Angels Network or Emergency Rescue Consultancy

or email: [email protected]

WHY FINDING BELLA IS URGENT
A nursing mother separated from her litter is at risk for:
Mastitis
Dehydration
Infection
Malnutrition
Reproductive complications

Additionally, keeping Bella safe prevents future unwanted litters and supports the ongoing investigation.
Bella deserves the same chance at safety that her puppies received,The community has already proven how powerful it can be. We’re asking for that energy again every set of eyes helps.
Animal Angels Network will release updates.

Another case we are still working on that we need sightings for us Ambrose.

This one is in Joplin, and I know I have a lot of Joplin followers, so Joplin and surrounding folks, please keep an eye out for Ambrose and share this post please so your friends and family see it too!

Ambrose is missing from near the Oklahoma/ Missouri border, and there has been no confirmed sightings of him either.

Ambrose came from an abusive situation down in Texas, and would up at the Bulverde Area Humane Society. A family from Illinois had been talking with the shelter about adopting him for a while, and made arrangements to fly down to pick him up, and drive back. On the way back, they stopped at a rest stop in Joplin and that's where Ambrose was lost.

Ambrose is terrified of people, because of his past, and will likely not approach anyone or stay visible for long when you do see him. Please keep a watch out for him in tree lines, If you have game cameras anywhere, please check them for him to show up. If you have outdoor animals that you feed, keep an eye on the food being eaten more than usual also, often times dogs on the run will find a place where outdoor cats or other animals are fed and start eating from there. If this happens and you notice you're feeding more than usual, let me know, we'd like to put a game camera out to monitor the feeding to be sure it's not him coming in the night to eat.

Ambrose is loved by many, including us here at ERC even though we haven't yet met him, and everyone is concerned for his safety right now. He deserves a chance to have a happy life, and we are still hopeful that he will show up somewhere. Please keep him in your minds and keep watching for him please. We appreciate everyone that has called or text in sightings, even if they weren't him, and everyone for the support of trying to find him.

If you do see him, please do not attempt any interaction as he will likely run, and for us to get him safe, we need for him to stay in whatever area he pops up in so we can safely trap him.

Please call if seen ASAP so we can work with you on his capture.

‼️ PLEASE NOTE AMBROSE'S MARKINGS ‼️

-Ambrose has brown spots on his ears

-Ambrose weighed 45 lbs when he went missing,, but right now likely weighs less than that, many of the dogs that have been reported to us as possibly being him are much bigger than he is, so I just wanted to mention that directly. Still, if you think it's him, tell us! We will check into it to verify if it is him or not.

With the successes of the past few that have been safely trapped/caught, let's not forget about the ones still on the run and in need of sightings.

Missing in Springfield is Ripley, a 30–35 lb terrier mix. She’s been missing since before Christmas and there have been no confirmed sightings of her. She’s a cute little thing and 13 years old, so her condition/appearance may have changed quite a bit in a short amount of time.

If you have her, or know someone who may have taken her in thinking she was dumped or neglected, please know her family is still looking for her and is hoping and praying she will be returned. She is microchipped and has been reported lost to the microchip company, so please take her to a vet for scanning, or call me and I will make arrangements to get her back to her family.

They’ve had her her entire life, they’re all she’s ever known, and they are devastated that she’s still missing.

Photos of Ripley showing her markings are below.

Please call if you see her, see someone with her, or know someone who may have picked her up.

No questions, no confrontation, we just want to get her back to her family.

‼️UPDATE ON THE SPRINGFIELD “RUNNER” DOG‼️

After weeks of sightings ALL over Springfield and countless people trying to help, this sweet guy is finally safe!

I was planning to set up my trap last night because temperatures are supposed to drop into freezing, and I didn’t want to lose time getting the electronics installed in the cold. When I arrived, the neighbors happened to be letting their own dog (Bella) out to potty.

I called Bella over and just focused on her. I exaggerated play, talking to her, lots of friendly energy, and completely ignored him. Within a few minutes he started to whine, got curious, and slowly worked his way over. Then he tucked his little head up under my arm, and I was able to quietly slip a lead on him. ❤️

He’s now off the streets and safe with Rescue One!

Huge thank you to everyone who kept an eye out, reported sightings, and worried about him.

Special thanks to The Leigh's Lost and Found page for giving the community a place to report sightings and stay updated, that kind of visibility makes a difference!

And a big thank you to Evline for helping with the feeding process and keeping things steady behind the scenes. 🌟

Keeping the sighting location private and allowing him to settle and relax made all the difference in the world to be able to have this outcome.

(And yes, he really is the sweetest boy. He just needed the time and space to feel safe before he could show his sweetness to anyone).
